A phenomenal featherweight bout between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez is in the works. According to MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, the UFC is hoping to book a fight between Ortega and Rodriguez for a date TBD. It’s uncertain if the fight will be a main event of a Fight Night card or on a pay-per-view, but all signs point to Ortega facing Rodriguez next.

With a 4-0 record in the UFC to his name, Khamzat Chimaev already seems to be gearing up for a run at a title – likely at welterweight. He’s been heavily linked with a bout against former title contender Gilbert Burns and if he’s able to defeat the Brazilian, there’s a decent chance we could see him take on reigning 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman before the end of 2022.

Dana White stuck to his word and did a shoey. At the UFC 271 pre-fight press conference, Tai Tuivasa brought out his ShoeyVasa product and White said he would do a shoey. However, the press conference ended without the UFC boss doing a shoey so after Tuivasa knocked out Derrick Lewis at UFC 271, White decided the time was right to make the move.

However, if he doesn’t, he believes it says a lot about ‘The Last Stylebender’. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ recently scored a knockout victory over Derek Brunson at UFC 271. Cannonier called for a title shot in his post-fight interview, and Dana White noted that he was going to give him a chance at gold next. Furthermore, Israel Adesanya, who also scored a win on the card, opined that Cannonier is likely next.

Hunter Boone, an amateur MMA fighter competing on a card in Oklahoma sustained a serious injury on Saturday. Boone competed on Martial Combat League 3 in Shawnee, Oklahoma against Jordan Brown. The fight lasted only 17 seconds as when Brown took Boone down with an early takedown, Hunter’s head hit an exposed cage bracket resulting in a massive tear on the top of his head that would require 17 staples to close the wound.

In the main event of UFC 271, the middleweight title was up for grabs as Israel Adesanya was looking to defend his belt as he was rematching Robert Whittaker. Adesanya entered the fight coming off a decision win over Marvin Vettori to defend his belt. Whittaker, meanwhile, was on a three-fight winning streak, this since originally losing his belt to Adesanya back in 2019.

In the lead-up to UFC 273, Aljamain Sterling is going all out in an attempt to get into the head of Petr Yan. “Funk Master” is the one holding the belt but given how their first fight was going before Yan’s disqualification, it makes sense for Sterling to do everything in his power to gain an advantage over “No Mercy”.
