The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 73 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill. Tonight’s women’s strawweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Mackenzie Dern. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace looked fantastic both on her feet and while on the ground and seemingly cruised to a unanimous decision victory over ‘Overkill’. While many expected Angela Hill would have the edge in the striking department, that proved to be far from the case as Dern out struck her the entire twenty-five minutes. Following her statement win, Mackenzie proceeded to callout Rose Namajunas.

Entering Saturday night, the 34-year-old Czech Republican native re-upped his contract while winning six of his last seven (with one draw) and is looking to continue his winning streak as part of OKTAGON 43’s main card, which is headlined by a highly anticipated middleweight rematch between promotional champion Patrik Kincl and Karlos Vémola.

Cody Stamann had an interesting callout ready had he beat Douglas Silva de Andrade at UFC Charlotte. Stamann entered the fight with de Andrade with a ton of confidence as he felt like his wrestling would prove to be too much for his opponent. In the first round, Stamann got de Andrade to the ground but was then hit with an illegal upkick. However, instead of regaining position, the ref stood them up. The Brazilian then won the first round and ended up winning the fight because of that, which Stamann plans to appeal.

The UFC has parted ways with three more fighters according to the Twitter account, @UFCRosterWatch. It’s worth noting there are several reasons why a fighter might part ways with the promotion. In the past, fighters have parted ways with the UFC due to poor performance, fighting out their contract, and more. These fighters haven’t been confirmed to be cut by the promotion, but have been removed from the company’s website. Furthermore, they could return to the UFC in the future.

On the UFC 281 main card, the two contenders went back and forth. However, it was ‘The Diamond’ who wrapped up a third-round submission victory by rear-naked choke.

In the third battle between former champions, McGregor broke his leg in the final seconds of round one. Due to the devastating leg injury, he’s been out of action for nearly two years.

Coach of Sean O’Malley, Tim Welch, has named Aljamain Sterling as ‘the most dangerous’ bantamweight champion in the division’s history. Still, he’s confident his student has the tools to overcome the current bantamweight kingpin. O’Malley has risen the ranks to earn an opportunity to catapult his career into further stardom when he meets with Sterling for the bantamweight strap. UFC President Dana White announced the fight will take place at UFC 292 in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 19 at UFC 292.

The UFC Vegas 73 weigh-ins are in the books and two fighters failed to make weight. The main event of tomorrow’s UFC Apex card will feature strawweight action between Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill. Both fighters tipped the scales and were on point with their weight. Dern clocked in at 115 pounds, while Hill’s weight was 114.5, making their headliner official.

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman doesn’t think the judges will be needed if he fights Khamzat Chimaev. Usman and Chimaev have expressed interest in colliding inside the Octagon. “The Nigerian Nightmare” told ESPN that it’s a fight that has him intrigued, but he suggested the bout be contested at a catchweight. Chimaev took to his Twitter account to tag Usman in a post with a few money bag emojis. Usman’s response was positive, and he has since doubled down.
