Former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson has given his thoughts on what Mackenzie Dern can do to improve her game. Last weekend, Mackenzie Dern fell to 3-3 in her last six fights as she was decisively beaten by UFC veteran Jessica Andrade. The two battled it out on the main card of UFC 295, and from the word go, Dern just didn’t seem to be comfortable. She left her chin high, she looked off balance, and she didn’t seem at all prepared for the power coming her way from Andrade.

Mackenzie Dern is in good spirits following her UFC 295 TKO loss to Jessica Andrade. Dern was hoping to score a big win over a former UFC women’s strawweight champion inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. Things did not end the way Dern envisioned. Andrade returned to form with her devastating power punching. While Dern hung in tough, she ate some clean shots and was dropped before the referee had seen enough and called a halt to the fight in round two.

In documents obtained by MMA Fighting, Mackenzie Dern has accused her estranged husband Wesley Santos of abuse. According to the records in question, Dern has accused Santos of “repeated” physical and emotional abuse. She said that he slammed a door on her leg and dragged her through the house, and even filed a domestic violence restraining order. In addition, she claimed that he “threw my phone, water bottles, pillows and bedding while harassing/intimidating me verbally”.

Both fighters tipped the scales and were on point with their weight. Dern clocked in at 115 pounds, while Hill’s weight was 114.5, making their headliner official.

The UFC has started to fill out its May 13 event with two fights being added including the return of Mackenzie Dern. According to MMAJunkie, Dern is set to face Angela Hill at strawweight on May 13 at a location TBD. Later, it was reported by Mani Mayer that Karolina Kowalkiewicz will face Vanessa Demopoulos on that same May 13 event. The location of the card has not been announced, but the main event will see Anthony Smith take on Johnny walker.

Dern entered the fight coming off a split decision win over Tecia Torres to return to the win column after a five-round decision loss to Marina Rodriguez in her first UFC main event. Xiaonan, meanwhile, was set to headline her first UFC card and was coming off back-to-back losses to Rodriguez by split decision and a TKO loss to Carla Esparza.
