An intriguing matchup between women’s bantamweight contenders Holly Holm and Irene Aldana is set to headline a UFC Fight Night event on August 1. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported words of the Holm vs. Aldana matchup. It’s expected to be the five-round headliner at a Fight Night card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A light heavyweight bout between former RIZIN champion Jiri Prochazka and top contender Volkan Oezdemir has been added to the July 11 card on Fight Island. As previously reported, the UFC has been targeting a fight between Prochazka and Oezdemir for several months now, but the coronavirus pandemic got in the way. With both men being international fighters, it was difficult for the UFC to book them to fight in the United States. But now, with Fight Island set to open in the next few weeks in Abu Dhabi, the UFC is able to now freely match up its international talent, and that includes these two.

UFC president Dana White says he is uninterested in a trilogy fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko but says he likes Shevchenko vs. Weili Zhang. Nunes defeated Felicia Spencer via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 250 this past weekend to improve her win streak to 11 straight fights. She is the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in women’s MMA history and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Naturally, the question has to be asked what’s next for her given that she has dominated everyone who she has fought thus far.

Michael Bisping has a ton of praise for Tyron Woodley for throwing himself back into the fire despite a two-fight skid. Woodley had his first bout since March 2019 when he collided with Gilbert Burns in the main event of UFC on ESPN 9. The former UFC welterweight champion was looking to rebound after losing the 170-pound gold. Woodley was outgunned for five rounds and dropped his second straight bout via unanimous decision.

Featherweight prospect Herbert Burns took on veteran Evan Dunham in the first bout of the evening at Saturday’s UFC 250 event in Las Vegas. The result was a quick first round submission from the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist. Burns (10-2 MMA) was able to take Dunham (18-8 MMA) to the canvas in the early moments of round one and promptly proceeded to lock in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.
