Alexander Volkanovski on UFC 251 rematch with Max Holloway: “Nothing changes”

The current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski responded to the announcement of his UFC 251 rematch against the former champion Max Holloway. At UFC 245, in December of 2019, Holloway set out to defend his 145-pound belt against the top-ranked contender, Volkanovski. The title challenger used a steady flow of leg kicks and exchanges in the pocket to pick apart Holloway. Over the course of five rounds, The Australian put an end to the “Blessed” era as he earned the unanimous decision victory.

Leon Edwards will be getting the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns at UFC 251 according to Ali Abdelaziz. After Usman TKO’d Colby Covington at UFC 245 to defend his welterweight belt for the first time, many thought his next opponent would be Jorge Masvidal. Yet, negotiations stalled leaving Burns to step up and take the fight.

Henry Cejudo says it’s his fault Jose Aldo will be fighting for the bantamweight title at UFC 251. Cejudo called out Aldo for his first title defense and got his wish. He was set to fight the Brazilian on May 9 at UFC 250 in Brazil. Yet, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Aldo fight was ultimately scrapped as he was replaced by Dominick Cruz.

It was announced on Tuesday that Miocic and Cormier will meet for the third time at UFC 252 which is scheduled to take place on August 15 although a location and venue have not been announced yet.

The UFC reportedly called Leon Edwards up to see if he would fight UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman before giving the shot to Gilbert Burns. Jorge Masvidal was widely expected to be next in line to fight Usman for the belt but he is currently involved in a public contract dispute with the UFC. Masvidal believes he should get a new contract to fight for the belt but the UFC is not budging on it. When the UFC couldn’t come to terms with Masvidal, they reached out to Burns instead and offered him the title shot at UFC 251. But according to a new report, the UFC called Edwards first.

McGregor surprised fight fans the world over when he announced his retirement last Saturday night. Shortly after announcing his retirement on social media, he gave a few quotes to ESPN, explaining that he simply doesn’t see any reason to continue fighting right now, as there are no opportunities that excite him.

It’s official. As the rumors have suggested for weeks, Dana White’s much-discussed UFC Fight Island is none other than Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Speaking on social media on Tuesday, White confirmed the setting of Fight Island. He also dropped the dates of the first four events to go down on Fight Island: July 11, 15, 18 and 25.

The UFC is always looking for new challengers for women’s double champion Amanda Nunes.
