Holland (21-7 MMA) had stepped up on short notice for today’s event headliner, this after Vettori’s originally scheduled opponent Darren Till was forced out with an injury.

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 23 took place on Friday, and both Marvin Vettori and Kevin Holland made weight for the main event fight. In the headliner, Holland stepped up on one week’s notice to take on Vettori in a middleweight bout between two top-10 ranked fighters. Holland is just three weeks removed from a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Derek Brunson but he is getting another opportunity to take out a top-ranked fighter in the form of Vettori, who has won his last four fights in a row. Both of these guys are excellent middleweight fighters but Vettori has much more momentum coming into this fight. Both men made weight, with Vettori coming in at 186lbs and Holland stepping onto the scale at 183.5lbs.

The UFC on ABC 2 main event sees Vettori fight short-notice replacement, Kevin Holland. Originally, Vettori was supposed to face Darren Till but last week, the Englishman was forced out with a broken collarbone. Vettori is coming off a dominant decision win over Jack Hermansson in December. He’s also on a four-fight losing streak since losing a split decision to Israel Adesanya. Holland, meanwhile, is on coming off a disappointing loss to Derek Brunson just three weeks ago.

Kevin Holland is looking to rematch Derek Brunson. At UFC Vegas 22 on March 20, Holland had his first UFC main event against Brunson. Right when the fight was booked, and up until the final horn, “Trailblazer” was trash-talking Brunson. However, unfortunately for Holland, the fight did not go his way and he lost a clear-cut decision in a very lackluster fight.

Holland is filling in on short notice for the injured Darren Till, who withdrew from the fight due to a broken collarbone. He’s a big underdog at the sportsbooks right now, and it makes sense given his poor showing against Derek Brunson last month. Though Holland was favored to defeat Brunson at the sportsbooks, he lost that fight via unanimous decision when he was unable to stop the takedowns and got planted on his back for five rounds. In addition to being outwrestled, Holland showed no sense of urgency at any time throughout that fight, and he seemed to be more focused on talking rather than actually fighting.

There were rumors about this fight since Darren Till was forced out of his encounter against the Italian due to a broken collarbone. Right after that, Kevin Holland offered to face Marvin Vettori on short notice, receiving a positive message from “The Italian Dream”.

Vettori was supposed to fight Darren Till in the main event of next weekend’s card, but Till was forced to pull out of the fight due to a broken collarbone. That leaves Vettori without an opponent for the time being, but Holland was the first man to throw his name in the hat. Just a few weeks removed from a main event loss to Derek Brunson, Holland wants to get back in the Octagon and is willing to fight Vettori on short notice in order to do so.

UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson explained why he called out Paulo Costa following his win over Kevin Holland at UFC Vegas 22. Brunson won a unanimous decision over Holland in Saturday’s headliner. The 37-year-old veteran was able to take Holland down at will and control him on the mat for a dominant victory. Following the win, which was Brunson’s fourth straight victory at 185lbs, he called out the top contender Costa for a future fight. Costa was recently removed from a matchup against Robert Whittaker on April 17 and replaced by Kelvin Gastelum after the Brazilian pulled out due to illness. Once he feels better, Brunson is hoping the UFC books the fight.

UFC middleweight Kevin Holland says he is considering a move down to 170lbs following his loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 22. Holland was taken down at will for nearly the entire 25 minutes by Brunson on his way to a unanimous decision loss. Though it seemed that Holland didn’t take the fight seriously, you also have to give a ton of credit to Brunson for sticking to his gameplan. He was able to expose Holland’s poor takedown defense as he continually took him down at will and beat him with his grinding wrestling style. It was the kind of lopsided win for Brunson that now has Holland contemplating a chance of weight classes considering how he was held down.
