The Octagon is back on Yas Island for a rare Wednesday night show for UFC Fight Island 1, an 11-bout card headlined by Calvin Kattar vs. Dan Ige. Kattar (21-4) is looking to go 2-0 to start the year as he is coming off a very impressive knockout win over Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249. He is 5-2 inside the Octagon with notable wins over Shane Burgos, Andre Fili, and Ricardo Lamas.

Dan Ige is no stranger to being the betting underdog. Ige has been the underdog in his past three fights against Edson Barboza, Mirsad Bektic, and Kevin Aguilar and yet won all three contests. But, entering his July 15 main event against Calvin Kattar, it will be the toughest opponent he has faced and he’s excited Kattar took the fight given he is lower in the rankings.

UFC on ESPN 13 will be headlined by a featherweight firefight between ranked contenders Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. Both men will enter the fight with some serious momentum behind them, as Kattar recently knocked out the veteran Jeremy Stephens, while Ige spoiled the featherweight debut of former lightweight contender Edson Barboza in his last outing.

Dan Ige doesn’t understand how people thought Edson Barboza beat him. Back at UFC on ESPN 8, Barboza made his featherweight debut against the 15th-ranked, Dan Ige. Early on in the fight, the Brazilian dropped Ige but the Hawaiian rallied in the second and third rounds to win a split decision.

Both Claudia Gadelha and Dan Ige fought on UFC Fight Night in Jacksonville back on May 16 and both fighters came away with wins respectively. However, both fighters were also recent guests on Sirius XM Fight Nation’s ‘MMA Tonight’ and revealed they endure some COVID-19 scares in their camp. Before she picked up a win over Angela Hill, Claudia Gadelha said there was a lot of stress during her camp and the first COVID-19 test she received came back inconclusive and she was required to quarantine for 24 hours her first day in Jacksonville.

UFC featherweight contender Dan Ige says he will grant a rematch to Edson Barboza after their controversial split decision at UFC Florida. Ige won a split decision with scores of 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 in his favor in a decision that the majority of media and fans disagreed with. UFC president Dana White also said that he thought Barboza deserved to win the decision, but officially it starts as a loss for the Brazilian. While he’s usually quite reserved, Barboza has taken it upon himself to demand the UFC pay him his win bonus despite losing on the judges’ cards.

Edson Barboza has been denied the chance to appeal his controversial defeat at the hands of Dan Ige this past weekend. Barboza made his featherweight debut in Jacksonville and while many fans and pundits thought he’d struggle with the weight cut, he looked to be in the shape of his life — leading many to believe he’d put in an impressive display against Ige.

Barboza (20-8 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to rebound, this after suffering back-to-back losses to Paul Felder and Justin Gaethje respectively. The Brazilian’s most previous win had come back in December of 2018 when he TKO’d Dan Hooker.
