UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush has reflected on his loss to Charles Oliveira. The two lightweights clashed in the co-main event of UFC 289 in June. Heading into the contest, Beneil Dariush was riding arguably the greatest run in his career. Riding an eight-fight winning streak, he defeated names such as Tony Ferguson and Mateusz Gamrot in that stretch.

Beneil Dariush isn’t upset with his UFC 289 performance. Dariush was taking on Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of the pay-per-view card and if Dariush won, he would have gotten a lightweight title shot. However, after some early success, Oliveira caught him with a head kick and then landed several punches which hurt Dariush. Once he shot for a takedown, Oliveira got on top of him and scored a first-round TKO.

Tristar Gym head coach Firas Zahabi believes something was off with Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 last weekend. Last Saturday night at UFC 289, Beneil Dariush faced Charles Oliveira in the co-main event. While Dariush seemed to be faring pretty well in the first few minutes, it didn’t take long for Oliveira to take over. In the end, ‘Do Bronx’ earned a vicious TKO win, bringing Dariush’s title hopes to an end for the time being.

Nunes (22-5 MMA) was originally slated to have a trilogy fight with Julianna Pena at tonight’s event, but ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ was forced to withdraw from the contest due to injury. ‘The Lioness’ of course defeated Pena to reclaim the women’s bantamweight world title in her most recent effort at UFC 277.

Beneil Dariush has nothing but praise for Charles Oliveira. Dariush is set to take on Oliveira in the co-main event of UFC 289 in a pivotal fight for both men. The winner could very well get the next title shot so the stakes are high for this one. Although Dariush is confident he will get his hand raised, he knows it won’t be easy as he believes Oliveira is the second-best lightweight of all time.

This Saturday night, the co-main event of UFC 289 will see Charles Oliveira square off with Beneil Dariush. That belt, as we know, is held by Islam Makhachev, who beat Oliveira for the strap last year.

Beneil Dariush doesn’t think his UFC 289 fight against Charles Oliveira is the ‘people’s’ main event. Once the UFC added Dariush vs. Oliveira to the card, many fans claimed that is the best fight on the card and the real main event. However, the actual headliner is Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Irene Aldana. Although Nunes is a sizeable betting favorite, Dariush says fans need to respect that title bout as he says getting to fight underneath Nunes is special.

UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush has had a long road back to the top. The lightweight has been out of action since his decision victory over Mateusz Gamrot last October. That win was the ninth in a row for Dariush, previously scoring wins over names such as Tony Ferguson and Drew Dober. Now, he’s slated to return against former champion Charles Oliveira this Saturday, at UFC 289.

Beneil Dariush is ready to just fight. Dariush was hoping to return in March against Charles Oliveira, but the fight didn’t get booked until May. However, after the Brazilian suffered a minor injury, the fight was pushed back until UFC 289 in June which was frustrating for Dariush.

Dariush will share the Octagon with former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. The 155-pound tilt will take place inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 10 at UFC 289. Dariush has been promised a title opportunity if he defeats “do Bronx.”
