Alexa Grasso shook up the UFC flyweight division with a fourth-round submission victory over Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 in the night’s co-main event. While the upset arguably changed the trajectory of the division, it begged the question from many fight fans about whether the March 4 title fight should be run back right away. Shevchenko was arguably ahead entering round four before the tables turned, which led to the eventual outcome. The victory earned Grasso the new and distinct title of becoming the first female Mexican-born UFC champion.

The UFC returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday for UFC 285 which saw the heavyweight and women’s flyweight titles up for grabs. In the main event, Jon Jones was ending his three-year-long layoff and making his heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane for the vacant title. The co-main event saw Valentina Shevchenko defending her flyweight strap against Alexa Grasso.

If the UFC brass decide to book an immediate rematch between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko, don’t expect the newly crowned UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion to shy away. Grasso was a sizable underdog going into her title fight with Shevchenko at UFC 285 this past Saturday night. Early on in the fight, Grasso had success in the striking game, but Shevchenko used her grappling to stifle Grasso’s attack. Ultimately, Grasso did what champions do and adjusted, utilizing some slick grappling of her own to secure a rear-naked choke finish in the fourth round.
