Former PRIDE champion and MMA legend Wanderlei Silva was knocked out cold during a wild post-fight brawl this evening. Silva had apparently been DQ’d in Round 4 of his fight at Spaten Fight Night 2, this after performing repeated fouls on his opponent Acelino Freitas.

Tonight’s UFC Perth main card lineup featured a highly anticipated welterweight bout between Jake Matthews and Neil Magny. Matthews (22-8 MMA) was returning to the Octagon for the first time since defeating Chidi Njokuani by first-round submission this past July (see that here). Prior to that, the Aussie had earned back-to-back decision wins over Francisco Prado and Phillip Rowe.

Magomed Ankalaev lords over the UFC light heavyweight division, and while his next challenger is locked in, he does have a clear interest in a pair of upcoming high-stakes clashes at 205 pounds. Ankalaev will defend his belt against the man he claimed it from, Alex Pereira, in the headliner of UFC 320 on October 4th. While the Russian titleholder is focused on the task at hand in the coming days, Ankalaev is aware of the broader landscape and what could lie next if he gets his ideal outcome against ‘Poatan’. Dominick Reyes and Carlos Ulberg clash this weekend in the UFC Perth main event, while a UFC 320 clash between Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree meaningfully informs the title challenger queue at light heavyweight as well.

Joe Rogan isn’t sold on things being much different if Dricus du Plessis ever gets a rematch with Khamzat Chimaev. Du Plessis entered UFC 319 as the UFC Middleweight Champion. He defeated Sean Strickland twice, submitted Israel Adesanya, and stopped Robert Whittaker. It’s an impressive resume for “Stillknocks,” but Chimaev didn’t care about any of it. “Borz” handled business, ragdolling and controlling du Plessis throughout their title fight back in August. Chimaev ultimately scored the unanimous decision victory to capture UFC gold for the first time in his career.

Jack Della Maddalena doesn’t expect Islam Makhachev to make the same error that Belal Muhammad made. The main event of UFC 322 will feature a UFC Welterweight Championship clash. Titleholder Maddalena will be putting his gold at stake against Makhachev, who vacated the UFC Lightweight Championship for this opportunity. The matchup will take place inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Right now, Merab Dvalishvili is one of the most exciting fighters in all of mixed martial arts. He is the UFC bantamweight champion and has successfully defended the strap against both Umar Nurmagomedov and Sean O’Malley. At UFC 320, he’ll attempt to defend it for the third time when he goes up against Cory Sandhagen.

UFC Perth has taken a blow after Oban Elliott was forced to pull out of his scheduled fight against Jonathan Micallef. As we know, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is a place where we’ve come to expect a lot of great fights. The best tend to fight the best more often than not, and Dana White often receives a lot of praise for that. However, the chaotic nature of mixed martial arts often means that we’re left feeling disappointed by how many fights are canceled or postponed. This can rarely be avoided, but it’s still frustrating.

Aiemann Zahabi has been a longtime Tristar product, so comparing someone to one of his legendary gym compatriots over the years, Georges St. Pierre, is high praise not to be taken lightly. Zahabi drew a comparison between the former two-division champion and the current bantamweight kingpin, Merab Dvalishvili, ahead of the latter’s next title defense. Aiemann Zahabi has his own high-stakes bantamweight bout to focus on as he takes on Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in a battle of ranked bantamweight contenders at UFC Vancouver on October 18th. Zahabi appeared on MMA Canada to give his thoughts on not just the ‘Chito’ Vera clash, but also on the upcoming bantamweight title fight on October 4th.

Michael Bisping sees the UFC Perth headliner as such an evenly matched fight that he switched his prediction at the last possible moment. Dominick Reyes and Carlos Ulberg will throw down in Australia, with the winner this weekend being well-positioned for potentially the next crack at the 205-pound crown. While many think of ‘The Count’ as a 185-pound fighter, being that he’s a former UFC middleweight champion, Bisping does have several light heavyweight accolades too. Bisping captured and defended the Cage Warriors light heavyweight belt multiple times as well as the fact that he also won season three of The Ultimate Fighter as a 205-pound fighter.

Carlos Ulberg will be rooting for Magomed Ankalaev to defeat Alex Pereira at UFC 320. Ankalaev is set to defend his light heavyweight title in a rematch against Pereira. Ankalaev earned a decision win over Pereira earlier this year to win the belt, and Ulberg is hoping the result will be the same.

One MMA legend believes Alex Pereira’s rants ahead of UFC 320 are a good thing for “Poatan.” Pereira will have a chance to regain the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship when he collides with Magomed Ankalaev in a rematch on Oct. 4. “Poatan” lost the 205-pound title to Ankalaev back in March at UFC 313. Pereira was moving backwards throughout the fight and ended up dropping a unanimous decision.

Diego Lopes has an idea of when he’d like his next fight to take place. Lopes recently took center stage in the main event of Noche UFC in San Antonio. He defeated Jean Silva via second-round TKO. It was a nice bounce back win for Lopes, who fell short in his bid for the UFC Featherweight Championship against Alexander Volkanovski back in April.
