The UFC’s former lightweight champion, Pettis (23-10 MMA), was competing for the first time since May’s UFC 249 event, where he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone. That win had snapped a two-fight losing skid for ‘Showtime‘, as Anthony Pettis had previously suffered setbacks to Nate Diaz and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

Thompson (15-4-1 MMA) is set to return for the first time since UFC 244 in November of 2019, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Vicente Luque. Prior that win, ‘Wonderboy’ was coming off the first knockout loss of his career thanks to a superman punch from Anthony Pettis.

Colby Covington trashed former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis ahead of tonight’s UFC Vegas 17 event. ‘Showtime’ is set to return to the Octagon this evening for a welterweight bout with Alex Morono. With that said, ‘Chaos’ believes fight fans should be throwing their money down on ‘The Great White’, as Pettis is apparently “washed up” (via Instagram).
Michael Bisping responds to Twitter user threatening to rape and kill his daughter

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping responded to some disgusting comments from a Twitter user Friday night. Bisping (30-9 MMA) retired from the sport shortly following his knockout loss to Kelvin Gastelum in November of 2017. ‘The Count‘ has since gone on to become a fan favorite on microphone performing duties as a UFC analyst.

Friday night’s Cage Fury Fighting Championships 91 saw featherweight prospect Jose Perez pull off a late submission of 2020 candidate. Heading into the contest, Perez had only fought once in his professional career after putting together a 3-0 amateur career. Standing in his way at CFFC 91 was the 1-2 Jacob Dorman. Despite having this fight lined up, Perez already had his third career fight set for February as well.
Nina Ansaroff announces return to UFC after having baby with Amanda Nunes

UFC women’s strawweight contender Nina Ansaroff has announced her return to the Octagon three months after having a child with Amanda Nunes. Ansaroff and Nunes announced back in September the birth of their first child Raegan Ann Nunes. Incredibly, just three months later and Ansaroff is already ready to get back in the cage. The No. 5 ranked women’s strawweight took to her Twitter on Friday to announce her return to the Octagon. She did not announce her opponent or a date yet, but she figures to take on a top-15 opponent at least in her first fight since 2019. Stephen Thompson is rooting for Tyron Woodley. Thompson and Woodley fought at UFC 205 and 209 with the first fight being a draw and Woodley winning the rematch by majority decision. Since then, however, Woodley has struggled. He defended his belt against Demian Maia and Darren Till but in his last three fights has been dominated. “The Chosen One” lost all five rounds to Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns and lost all four rounds to Colby Covington before he got TKO’d in the fifth.
Frankie Edgar vs. Cory Sandhagen targeted for UFC card on February 6

An intriguing bantamweight matchup between top-ranked contenders Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen is being targeted for February 6, 2021. Edgar and Sandhagen were previously supposed to fight in January 2020 at UFC Raleigh, but the fight fell apart when Edgar was removed from the card to fight The Korean Zombie instead. Fortunately, the UFC was able to re-book the fight, just one year later. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to report that Edgar vs. Sandhagen will fight on February 6. It will not be the main card, as it will instead be on the undercard of an event headlined by heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov.

On Friday, ONE Championship returned to fans’ screens with the stacked ONE: Collision Course out of the Singapore Indoor Arena. In the main event, ONE light heavyweight kickboxing world champion Roman Kryklia defended his title with a unanimous decision triumph over Andre Stoica. In the co-main event, meanwhile, ONE bantamweight Muay Thai champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao defended his belt with a third-round knockout of Rodlek PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym.

UFC middleweight Chris Weidman reacted to the recent UFC roster cuts, suggesting the promotion is cutting veteran fighters due to their pay. UFC president Dana White recently revealed that 60 fighters would be cut from the roster, and it started when former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva got the ax. Since then, other high-priced veterans such as Yoel Romero and Anthony Johnson were also let go. White has said the cuts have everything to do with performance and nothing to do with fighter pay, but not everyone is buying that. Weidman certainly isn’t.
UFC Vegas 17 loses fight after middleweight Karl Roberson tests positive for COVID-19

The upcoming UFC Vegas 17 card is down a fight, as Karl Roberson has been forced off the bill after testing positive for COVID-19. UFC Vegas 17 goes down this Saturday inside the promotion’s APEX facility in Sin City. Roberson was slated to meet Dalcha Lungiambula in a middleweight bout on the undercard. Unfortunately, MMA Junkie is reporting that he has tested positive for COVID-19, which means he won’t be fighting this weekend.

Polarizing UFC welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry is the latest MMA star to call for a fight with YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul. Paul has been the talk of the combat sports world after he picked up a brutal knockout victory over former NBA star Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. undercard last month.

The medical suspensions for last Saturday’s UFC 256 card have been revealed, and to nobody’s surprise, headliners Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno could be out for awhile. Figueiredo, the UFC flyweight champion, and Moreno, the streaking top contender, collided in the UFC 256 main event, and battled tooth-and-nail for five, hectic rounds. At the end of the razor-close contest, both men were black and blue, and the cage-side judges scored the fight a majority draw. After this flyweight war, both men are facing six-month suspensions.

Bantamweight contender Jose Aldo says he will never fight for another MMA promotion outside the UFC, saying “It is not a question of money.” Aldo returns to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC Vegas 17 when he takes on the surging Marlon Vera in the evening’s co-main event. For Aldo, this is an extremely important fight. The former UFC featherweight champion has fallen on hard times as of late, dropping three straight fights. With the UFC cutting 60 fighters from its roster and with fellow Brazilians such as Junior dos Santos and Ronaldo Souza likely exiting the Octagon, some have suggested Aldo could also be released with a loss to Vera.
