Jorge Masvidal wants a chance to run things back with Demian Maia following the Brazilians impressive submission victory over Ben Askren. Maia defeated Askren with a rear-naked choke submission (see that here) in the third round of today’s UFC Singapore event.
Gilbert Burns tells UFC not to cut Ben Askren so he can fight him instead

UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns is pleading with the UFC matchmakers not to cut Ben Askren in the wake of his third-round submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC Singapore. Gilbert Burns and Ben Askren have spoken about a potential grappling superfight in the past, but Burns seems much more interested in facing Askren in the Octagon. After losing to Maia, Askren is now just 1-2 in the UFC and at a very real risk of being released. Burns hopes that doesn’t happen, at least until he gets a chance to put his hands on him.

Earlier this evening it was announced that USADA had cleared Nate Diaz of any wrongdoing and the Stockton native was now eligible to compete at UFC 244. Diaz had taken to Twitter earlier in the week claiming that he was no longer fighting in New York because he had been flagged by USADA. However, UFC President Dana White assured fans tonight that the fight between ‘The Stockton Slugger’ and ‘Gamebred’ is still a go for UFC 244.

Frank Mir and Roy Nelson collided in the main event of Bellator 231 with both fighters on a recent losing skid. Frank Mir (18-13) is on a four-fight losing streak and is 2-8 in his last 10. He is also searching for his first Bellator win after losing by TKO to Fedor Emelianenko and Javy Ayala. His last win was a knockout over Todd Duffee in 2015.

Not long after Nate Diaz announced that an adverse United States Anti-Doping Agency test result had forced him out of his UFC 244 main event battle with Jorge Masvidal, Dustin Poirier took to social media to share his thoughts on the situation. Poirier, who was briefly targeted to fight Diaz late last year, was fresh out of surgery. Despite his condition, he did not hold back.

Bellator MMA has reportedly signed former UFC flyweight and bantamweight contender Sergio Pettis to a multi-fight contract. Sergio Pettis recently became a free agent when his UFC contract ran out. He decided to test the free-agent market, and evidently Bellator came up with the best offer for his services.

On Thursday, former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor laid out plans for a comeback, starting on January 18. While McGregor didn’t specify an opponent for his next fight, ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani subsequently clarified that Donald Cerrone is the most likely option for the Irishman’s next fight, while Justin Gaethje is also a possibility. Gaethje has caught wind of this news, and doesn’t seem happy that he’s the second priority after Cerrone. He did, after all, beat Cerrone just a few weeks ago.
