Anthony Smith suffered a critical loss at the hands of Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 277 on July 30. The former light heavyweight title challenger also endured a brutal injury in the form of a broken ankle. Smith, who burst on to the scene in 2018, has fought some of the best fighters in the sport. Names like Glover Texiera, Jon Jones, and Rashad Evans quickly come to mind as three of the best fighters that the division has ever seen.

The UFC has parted ways with another three fighters according to recent reports from @UFCRosterWatch on ‘Twitter’. It should also be noted that it has not been confirmed if all of these moves were outright releases or simply contracts which were not renewed.

UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera reveals Petr Yan turned down a fight against him. ‘Chito’ has been out of the cage since his decision victory over Rob Font in April. The win was Vera’s third in a row and has moved him to the front of the bantamweight rankings. Prior to the victory over Font, he had defeated Frankie Edgar and Davey Grant.

Cesar Gracie has revealed that Nick Diaz competed with two ruptured discs in his neck against Robbie Lawler at UFC 266. It was Nick Diaz (26-10 MMA) vs Robbie Lawler (29-16 MMA) back in September of 2021 in the middleweight match-up. Lawler was the victor via TKO at 44 seconds of the third round.

On September 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nate Diaz will compete in the final fight on his UFC contract when he battles Khamzat Chimaev in what should be a mammoth showdown in Sin City. The contest is considered to be a mismatch by many with Chimaev being viewed as the clear favourite, but we all know counting someone like Diaz out before the fight has even begun is a mistake.

Luque (21-9-1 MMA) had entered Saturday’s co-main event looking to rebound, this after having his four-fight win streak snapped by Belal Muhammad in his most previous effort back in April. Prior to that setback, ‘The Silent Assassin’ was coming off four straight stoppage wins, which included finishes of Michael Chiesa and Tyron Woodley.

Their rematch played out far differently with “The Lioness” dominating a tough but clearly outmatched Pena. Nunes won the fight via unanimous decision to get the 135-pound gold back.
