The defeat was a brutal one for the Karate specialist, as it was his second in a row. He previously lost to Gilbert Burns at UFC 264 in July.

That, of course, is not legal and Davis is not happy with it and during the fight got the commission to stop it.

However, Pereira was still medically suspended so instead he asked the UFC to face Chimaev at UFC 283 in Brazil on January 23 – but the fight would be at light heavyweight.

Kennedy had a successful stint under Strikeforce, going 6-2, with wins over notable names such as Robbie Lawler and losses to Ronaldo Souza and Luke Rockhold. The San Luis Obispo native fought inside the UFC from 2013 – 2016 with a sizeable win over Michael Bisping. Following the victory, after being presented with the belt, Khabib laid his gloves down in the center of the Octagon, a traditional gesture indicating retirement from the sport.
