Jeff Novitzky says there is no evidence Islam Makhachev used an IV to rehydrate after the UFC 284 weigh-ins. Makhachev was headlining the pay-per-view card in Australia which marked his first title defense as he took on featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski. It was a much closer fight than many thought, but it was Makhachev who won by decision.

Islam Makhachev is at the top of the sport following the first defense of his lightweight title, but his mother would like him to call it a day. Makhachev cemented himself as the best lightweight on the planet after a commanding second-round submission over Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 last October. At UFC 284 earlier this month, the 31-year-old did enough on the judges’ scorecards to earn a unanimous decision victory over featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in a closely contested battle.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 69, Erin Blanchfield headlined her first UFC event as she took on Jessica Andrade – who stepped up on short notice at women’s flyweight. Blanchfield was supposed to face Taila Santos but a week out the Brazilian withdrew and Andrade stepped up. Blanchfield entered the fight being a perfect 4-0 in the UFC and was coming off a submission win over Molly McCann. Andrade, meanwhile, had picked up a lopsided decision win over Lauren Murphy at UFC 283.

Sanchez and Trout did battle inside the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA this past Friday night. Going into the bout, Sanchez was a massive betting underdog, given that Trout is a former WBA super-welterweight titleholder and the fight was contested under bare-knuckle boxing rules.
