Jessica Eye vs. Cynthia Calvillo set to headline UFC Fight Night card

A women’s flyweight bout between Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo is set to headline a UFC Fight Night card on June 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the Eye vs. Calvillo matchup for the UFC’s June 13 show in Vegas. Of note, it was reported that this fight will be the headliner of the card, which surprised many of the fans who reacted to it on social media.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones thanked UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for backing him up in his GOAT feud with Conor McGregor. On Saturday, McGregor posted a list of the greatest fighters in MMA history. He listed Anderson Silva at No. 1 followed by himself at No. 2, which surprised a lot of people because he listed himself ahead of greats such as Georges St-Pierre and Jones. Nurmagomedov was not in McGregor’s top-five list and he responded to his rival, saying he doesn’t belong on a list with these other greats.

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz is offering Conor McGregor a title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but with some unique stipulations. Abdelaziz represents several UFC champions including Usman, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, plus the recently-retired Henry Cejudo. He has a lot of influence on the matchmaking in the sport and who gets title shots, so as much as some fans don’t take Abdelaziz seriously, he does wield quite a bit of power in the sport.

The trend of fellow fighters unloading on Conor McGregor for his recent MMA GOAT rankings continued this evening with Khabib Nurmagomedov. The promotions undefeated lightweight world champion, Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA), had defeated McGregor by way of fourth round submission during their highly anticipated showdown at UFC 229 in October of 2018. However, ‘The Eagle’ was not named as a part of the Irishman’s current MMA GOAT list, yet somehow Conor’s name managed to take the #2 spot behind Anderson Silva.

Jon Jones’ reign in the light heavyweight division has been put into question since his closely contested bout against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247. The full card has been announced for the UFC Fight Night card on May 30 that will be headlined by welterweights Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns. With the card just eight days away, the UFC has released the full 11-fight card for the event, which is tentatively scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas next Saturday. UFC president Dana White has said he will take his promotion to Arizona to hold his shows there in the event that the state of Nevada doesn’t allow the card to take place.
