Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz continue to trade shots ahead of potential rematch

UFC welterweight stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz continued to trade shots ahead of a potential rematch between the bitter rivals. Masvidal and Diaz met back at UFC 244 in November 2019, and the fight ended in controversial fashion as the cageside doctor stopped the fight due to cuts, resulting in a TKO win over Masvidal. The stoppage was called into question by several MMA veterans including long-time referee Big John McCarthy, and because of the controversy there has always been the chance the UFC could run a rematch between the two.
Henry Cejudo officially removed from UFC rankings, bantamweight title vacant

Former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo has officially been removed from the UFC rankings and his 135lbs is now listed as vacant. Cejudo shocked the MMA world when he abruptly retired following a second-round TKO win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Following the victory, Cejudo took the microphone and said that he was hanging up his gloves. It was a move that surprised most fans, fighters, and fellow media, though UFC president Dana White said that the UFC already knew about Cejudo’s intentions to retire long ago.

UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz claims that the team of boxing legend Mike Tyson has contacted him for a potential fight and that he’s down to do it. Ortiz recently suggested that he was interested in fighting Tyson, and now he’s saying that Tyson’s team is the one who contacted him first about a potential fight. UFC welterweight star Nate Diaz fired back at UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones over his recent comments about the GOAT in mixed martial arts. First, UFC lightweight Conor McGregor released his list of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, where he listed Anderson Silva at No. 1 followed by himself at No. 2, Georges St-Pierre at No. 3 and Jones at No. 4. Diaz saw McGregor’s Tweet and responded saying that he was the GOAT since he tapped McGregor out at UFC 196. Jones, in turn, responded to Diaz saying that the GOAT argument is just getting ridiculous now.
Dan Ige says he will grant Edson Barboza a rematch

UFC featherweight contender Dan Ige says he will grant a rematch to Edson Barboza after their controversial split decision at UFC Florida. Ige won a split decision with scores of 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 in his favor in a decision that the majority of media and fans disagreed with. UFC president Dana White also said that he thought Barboza deserved to win the decision, but officially it starts as a loss for the Brazilian. While he’s usually quite reserved, Barboza has taken it upon himself to demand the UFC pay him his win bonus despite losing on the judges’ cards.

UFC welterweight Mike Perry said that he learned his “Mike Tyson style” of fighting from female boxing legend Christy Martin. Perry is a mixed martial artist but as anyone who has watched his fights knows, he’s an extremely aggressive striker who relies primarily on his punching power. Obviously, Perry is in a different league from a guy like Tyson, but it’s still cool to see him giving the boxing legend some love. It’s equally nice to see Perry showing some admiration for Martin, one of the greatest female boxers of all time.

MMA legend Tito Ortiz has released a promo video for a potential fight against boxing legend Mike Tyson, who recently announced his desire to compete again. Tyson recently said that he wants to return to the boxing ring with the money going to charity. He has released videos and photos of himself and he looks to be in great shape despite having not fought in years. As soon as Tyson said he wanted to fight again, he received callouts from several legends such as Ken Shamrock and Ortiz.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones thanked UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for backing him up in his GOAT feud with Conor McGregor. On Saturday, McGregor posted a list of the greatest fighters in MMA history. He listed Anderson Silva at No. 1 followed by himself at No. 2, which surprised a lot of people because he listed himself ahead of greats such as Georges St-Pierre and Jones. Nurmagomedov was not in McGregor’s top-five list and he responded to his rival, saying he doesn’t belong on a list with these other greats.

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz is offering Conor McGregor a title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but with some unique stipulations. Abdelaziz represents several UFC champions including Usman, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, plus the recently-retired Henry Cejudo. He has a lot of influence on the matchmaking in the sport and who gets title shots, so as much as some fans don’t take Abdelaziz seriously, he does wield quite a bit of power in the sport.

The promotions undefeated lightweight world champion, Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA), had defeated McGregor by way of fourth round submission during their highly anticipated showdown at UFC 229 in October of 2018. However, ‘The Eagle’ was not named as a part of the Irishman’s current MMA GOAT list, yet somehow Conor’s name managed to take the #2 spot behind Anderson Silva.

Earlier today Conor McGregor took to social media where he revealed his current MMA GOAT rankings which included Jon Jones, Anderson Silva and GSP. Sitting atop McGregor’s list was ‘The Spider’ in former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. According to the Irishman, Silva’s array of finishes across 2 divisions, with champion status in 1, earned him the top spot.
