Michael Bisping says Jorge Masvidal isn't scared to fight Leon Edwards

Fernando Quiles Jr. - July 27, 2019

Michael Bisping doesn’t believe Jorge Masvidal is ducking Leon Edwards in fear. The consensus on a potential welterweight clash between Masvidal and Edwards appears to be split. One side believes that the bout makes sense as the two were involved in a backstage incident back in March that saw Masvidal lay hands on Edwards, causing a cut under his eye. The other side believes that Masvidal’s stock has soared beyond the grudge match and he should be fighting for the 170-pound gold next.

Dillon Danis questions Tyron Woodley's loyalty after posing for photo with Jorge Masvidal

Cole Shelton - July 26, 2019

Dillon Danis has taken a shot at Tyron Woodley for hanging out and taking a picture with Jorge Masvidal. The former welterweight champion is good friends and training partners with Ben Askren, who “Gamebred” knocked out at UFC 239. It was a vicious knee that resulted in “Funky” being out cold for quite a while. There was also an intense lead up to the fight where Masvidal said he wanted to end the Askren bloodline. Jorge also that he planned on breaking Ben’s face.

Leon Edwards believes Jorge Masvidal is making excuses not to fight him

Cole Shelton - July 23, 2019

Ever since Jorge Masvidal gave Leon Edwards the ‘three-piece and a soda‘ the Englishman has wanted an actual fight with “Gamebred”. However, despite both men winning their respective bouts at UFC London, they were not matched up by the organization. Instead, “Gamebred” fought Ben Askren, and “Rocky” took on Rafael dos Anjos. Now that they both men have once again proved victorious, and are currently ranked 3rd and 4th in the division, pairing them up together seems to make a lot of sense. But, according to Edwards, Masvidal is making excuses to avoid the fight.

Masvidal has been the talk of the mixed martial arts world since his flying knee knockout over Ben Askren. The five-second finish set a record for the fastest KO in UFC history. “Gamebred” is riding a wave of momentum and he’s hoping to capitalize on it. It appears Masvidal is well aware of the situation as he’s calling for a UFC welterweight title shot or a money fight with McGregor.

Leon Edwards argues Jorge Masvidal doesn't deserve title shot

Tom Taylor - July 17, 2019

When Jorge Masvidal knocked former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren out in five seconds at UFC 239, he cemented himself as one of the top contenders in the UFC welterweight division — perhaps even the top contender outright. Yet rising British contender Leon Edwards, who fights Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC San Antonio this weekend, doesn’t believe Masvidal has earned a title shot just yet. “I never held Askren in high regard anyway,” Edwards told MMA Fighting, downplaying Masvidal’s victory. “He just shouted his mouth off the get to where he’s at. He’s an amateur on the feet, I’ve watched him hit pads and it’s weird; even his shots are slow. He came in, he talked his way up into the position he was in and then he dipped his head into a knee.

Who did it better: Jorge Masvidal or Kid Yamamoto

Natasha Hooper - July 16, 2019

Jorge Masvidal broke the UFC record for the fastest KO in history on July 6, snapping Ben Askren’s undefeated streak with a brutal flying knee. At UFC 239, “Gamebred” anticipated a takedown attempt from Askren and counteracted “Funky” with a flying knee. Askren was knocked out cold, and Masvidal was quick to bask in the glory of his swift victory. The fight ended officially at the five second mark of round 1. However, Masvidal believes if the referee had intervened sooner, the fight would have finished within 2 or 3 seconds.

Stephen Thompson weighs in on Jorge Masvidal's celebration after Askren KO

Fernando Quiles Jr. - July 15, 2019

Stephen Thompson certainly isn’t one to talk trash, but he isn’t down on Jorge Masvidal’s UFC 239 post-fight celebration. There was some bad blood going into the UFC 239 main card bout between Masvidal and Ben Askren. “Gamebred” made it clear that he wasn’t a fan of Askren, while “Funky” kept poking the bear. Askren even suggested that Masvidal wasn’t secure in his own masculinity.

It appears that former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has squashed his beef with surging welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal. ‘The Count’ and ‘Gamebred’ had exchanged verbal jabs in the past, this due to Bisping’s rivalry with Masvidal’s friend and training partner Yoel Romero.

Kamaru Usman says 'slow down' on Jorge Masvidal title shot talks

Cole Shelton - July 13, 2019

At UFC 239, Jorge Masvidal was taking on Ben Askren, where many thought the winner would be fighting Kamaru Usman next for the title. “Gambred” ultimately knocked “Funky” out cold with a flying knee just 5-seconds into the fight. It was a highlight reel knockout, and one Usman was glad to see. “It was great, it was incredible, man. Jorge has been putting in work for a long long time,” Usman said to TMZ Sports. “I’m happy to see him go out there and now start to get some recognition.”

In exchange for Demetrious Johnson, Askren was sent over to the most recognized mixed martial arts promotion. “Funky” had a successful, albeit controversial, debut against Robbie Lawler back in March. He submitted Lawler in the first round. In his second UFC bout, Askren was flattened in a record-setting five seconds via flying knee courtesy of Jorge Masvidal.

With the victory, which only took 1:25 to secure, Harrison earned her spot in the PFL playoffs and sets up an October matchup with Genah Fabian at PFL 2019: 7.
