In the main event of UFC Vegas 19, a pivotal heavyweight bout headlined UFC Vegas 19 as Curtis Blaydes took on Derrick Lewis. In the lead-up to the fight, many thought Blaydes would use his wrestling to control the fight and win a clear-cut decision or get a late stoppage. However, when “Razor” did shoot, Lewis stuffed the takedowns and scored a second-round KO win.

UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis explained why he wants to fight Alistair Overeem, accusing “The Reem” of turning him down four times. Lewis brutally knocked out Curtis Blaydes in the main event of UFC Vegas 19, picking up the victory as a massive +350 betting underdog. It’s a huge win over Lewis over the No. 2 ranked heavyweight in the UFC and it should push him closer to getting a title shot. However, the title is not what Lewis is striving for next. Instead, he called out Overeem for his next fight. Overeem is, of course, a teammate of the Elevation Fight Team and also one of the top-10 ranked heavyweights in the world. Following the win, Lewis explained why he wants to fight Overeem despite him getting knocked out by Alexander Volkov.

Lewis (25-7 MMA) squared off with Blaydes in the headliner of tonight’s UFC Vegas 19 event. After a rough opening round which saw ‘Razor’ land a plethora of different strikes, ‘The Black Beast’ unleashed his freakish power in round two. Derrick Lewis was able to catch Curtis Blaydes with an uppercut while he was coming in which resulted in an immediate stoppage.

Blaydes is a powerhouse wrestler which has earned him some critics, including UFC president Dana White, who was not a fan of his last fight with Alexander Volkov. Despite winning a unanimous decision, Blaydes was not able to get the finish in that fight. Blaydes is set to take on Lewis in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event on February 20 in Las Vegas. Blaydes is currently the No. 2 ranked heavyweight in the UFC, while Lewis is No. 4, so the winner of this fight is most likely going to want a title shot against the winner of UFC 260’s Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou 2. However, with Jones set to make his heavyweight debut this summer, UFC president Dana White has already hinted that “Bones” is likely going to get the next title shot.

While it’s still not clear who he’ll fight in his first fight in this new weight class, Cormier believes Blaydes should get the call.

Curtis Blaydes has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, his UFC Vegas 15 main event fight with Derrick Lewis has been canceled. This unfortunate news was first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN, the UFC’s official broadcast partner. Helwani also added that the UFC is hoping to reschedule this heavyweight fight for later in December, once Blaydes has a clean bill of health.
