Derrick Lewis will be going down to Brazil next month to headline UFC Sao Paulo. On Monday, it was reported that Curtis Blaydes was out of his scheduled main event fight against Jailton Almeida at UFC Sao Paulo due to injury. However, Ag.Fight revealed that Derrick Lewis has agreed to step up to face the Brazilian in the main event spot on Nov. 4 at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Curtis Blaydes is aiming to return by the end of the summer following his TKO defeat at the hands of Sergei Pavlovich. For the longest time now, Curtis Blaydes has been a contender in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Unfortunately for him, whenever he seems to be on the verge of a title shot, he falls short at the final hurdle. It’s happened against Francis Ngannou, Derrick Lewis and, most recently, Sergei Pavlovich.

The UFC is returning to Sao Paulo, Brazil in November and the promotion has its main event. According to MMAJunkie, the UFC will return to Sao Paulo on November 4 for a Fight Night card which is set to be headlined by a pivotal heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Jailton Almeida. The report states that verbal agreements are in place with contracts expected to be issued in the coming days. The last time the UFC was in Sao Paulo was in 2019 when Jan Blachowicz beat Jacare Souza in the main event.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 71, a battle of top-five heavyweights went down as Sergei Pavlovich took on Curtis Blaydes. Pavlovich was riding a five-fight win streak and was coming off a 54-second TKO win over Tai Tuivasa. Prior to that, he picked up a 55-second TKO win over Derrick Lewis and also knocked out Shamil Abdurakhimov in the first round. Blaydes, meanwhile, was on a three-fight win streak as he had previously beat Tom Aspinall after the Brit tore his knee just seconds into the fight.
