The Octagon returns to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 51 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Vicente Luque vs. Belal Muhammad 2. Luque (21-7-1 MMA) and Muhammad (20-3 MMA) originally collided at UFC 205 in November of 2016, with ‘The Silent Assassin’ emerging victorious by way of first round knockout.

Vicente Luque has one win on his record that may surprise some people. As Luque was 3-2-1 as a pro and struggling, he got an offer to fight Thiago Santos on three weeks’ notice in Sao Luis, Brazil. Santos, at the time, was 7-0, and although Luque didn’t know much about his opponent,  he knew it was going to be a striking fight.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 51, a welterweight rematch between Vicente Luque and Belal Muhammad headlines the card. Heading into the fight, Luque is a -170 favorite while ‘Remember The Name’ is a +150 underdog. Ahead of the fight, BJPENN.com reached out to pro fighters to get their prediction for the scrap. Although these two fought back at UFC 205 with Luque winning by KO in 79 seconds, all the pros are expecting a much different fight this time around. The pros are actually lean towards the underdog in Muhammad in getting his hand raised.

Vicente Luque is excited to headline his first UFC card. In the main event of UFC Vegas 51, Luque is set to rematch Belal Muhammad in a crucial fight for the welterweight division. The two fought back at UFC 205 where Luque won the fight in 79 seconds by KO. Since then, he has gone on an incredible run, but he hasn’t been the main event until now which he says is a dream come true.

Vicente Luque believes a fight with Colby Covington could be the ticket for him to secure a UFC welterweight title shot. Luque (21-7 MMA) is scheduled to meet up with Belal Muhammad (20-3 MMA) at UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday, April 16th. It will be their second fight, the first taking place back in November of 2016 where ‘The Silent Assassin’ came out the victor.

In his last four fights, Vicente Luque has gone 4-0 which includes two big submission wins over Tyron Woodley and Michael Chiesa in the last calendar year. In total, across his last 16 bouts, the Brazilian sensation has gone 14-2 with his only defeats coming at the hands of Leon Edwards and Stephen Thompson.

UFC welterweight contender Vicente Luque is interested in a title eliminator fight against Leon Edwards, saying “it would remove any doubts.” Edwards is the No. 3 ranked contender in the UFC welterweight division, and Luque is the No. 4 ranked fighter. Edwards was supposed to fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269 next month, but that fight fell apart after Masvidal pulled out with an injury. With Masvidal out, Edwards was taken off the card. There is a chance that he could be re-booked for another fight in early 2022, but he has said that he plans on waiting for the next title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who recently beat Colby Covington again.

Vicente Luque is in New York City and will weigh in to be the backup fighter for UFC 268. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Luque will be the backup fighter for the welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington in Madison Square Garden.

UFC welterweight contender Vicente Luque reiterated his callout of Nate Diaz for an upcoming December UFC card, saying “I want the challenge.” Luque called out Diaz following his submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 265 back in August, and Luque and Diaz have gone back-and-forth on social media over the last few months. Right now, it seems like the UFC is more interested in booking Diaz against Khamzat Chimaev, but if you ask Luque, this is still the fight that he hopes the UFC books.

Diaz appears to be interested in the matchup as well, but up to this point, the UFC has not booked the fight. However, Luque is still holding out hope that the UFC is open to booking this matchup.

Luque is one of the hottest fighters at 170lbs right now as he’s won his last four fights in a row — all by stoppage — including a D’Arce choke submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 265 that moved him into the top-five of the UFC welterweight division. Luque has since then called for a title shot against the champion Usman, but the champ is set to take on Covington in a rematch later this year at UFC 268. Although Luque knows that he will have to wait and see what happens in the Usman vs. Covington fight before he gets his crack at the belt, the Brazilian says he is open to being the backup fighter just in case something happens to either fighter. Luque submitted Michael Chiesa with a D’Arce choke to move into the top-five rankings at 170lbs. “The Silent Assassin” has now won his last four fights in a row — all by stoppage — and he is closing in on a title shot against Usman. The odds are that Leon Edwards will get the title shot before Luque since he has a head-to-head win over him, but Luque believes that his ability to put on exciting fights and be a fresh new contender for Usman puts him ahead of Edwards. In fact, he also believes that he has more weapons to challenge the champion. Speaking to Combate, Luque explained why he is the man to beat Usman.
