Harry Kettle - February 21, 2022

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has indicated he won’t stay quiet if he’s able to beat Petr Yan at UFC 273. As part of the early Q2 schedule for the UFC, Aljamain Sterling will defend his 135-pound title against Petr Yan in their highly anticipated rematch on April 9. The contest will follow on from their UFC 259 encounter which, controversially, ended in a disqualification win for Sterling that handed him the championship.

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling continues to ruffle feathers after giving himself a “Dagestani beard”. In the lead-up to UFC 273, Aljamain Sterling is going all out in an attempt to get into the head of Petr Yan. “Funk Master” is the one holding the belt but given how their first fight was going before Yan’s disqualification, it makes sense for Sterling to do everything in his power to gain an advantage over “No Mercy”.

Chris Taylor - January 15, 2022

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has clapped back at Sean O’Malley after ‘Suga’ criticized his ‘star power’. However, after Max Holloway was forced to withdraw from the proposed event headliner with featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski, the promotion decided to push the Yan-Sterling rematch back to UFC 273, this instead of moving the highly anticipated bantamweight title unification bout to main event status.

Aljamain Sterling trolls Petr Yan with latest injury news: “Doc says back in 2023”

Adam D Martin - November 24, 2021

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling trolled his rival Petr Yan with his latest injury news, joking that “doc says back in 2023.” Sterling defeated Yan at UFC 259 earlier this year via fourth-round DQ after the Russian was disqualified for throwing an illegal knee to the head of a grounded opponent. It was the first time in UFC history that a belt changed hands following a disqualification, with Sterling being crowned the new UFC bantamweight champion after Yan lost his belt. The two were then supposed to fight at UFC 267 in October in a rematch, but Sterling was forced to pull out of the fight due to an injury. Instead of Yan vs. Sterling, the UFC called upon top contender Cory Sandhagen to step up on short notice. Yan ended up beating Sandhagen via unanimous decision in what was the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 267.
