The manager for UFC bantamweight contender Petr Yan says that the rising star could take on Marlon Moraes in May or June. Yan is coming off of a huge KO win over Urijah Faber at UFC 245 which catapulted him into title contention at 135lbs as the No. 3-ranked contender. Moraes, meanwhile, defeated Jose Aldo via split decision to keep his spot as the No. 1 contender. However, despite both Yan and Moraes picking up wins, the UFC decided to instead give Aldo the title shot against UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo in a controversial move.

Yan has been gunning for Cejudo and the UFC bantamweight title ever since he knocked out Urijah Faber in devastating fashion at UFC 245. It was a huge breakthrough win for Yan, who knocked out a legend on one of the biggest UFC cards of the year, improving his UFC record to 6-0 in the process.

UFC veterans Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber have confirmed opponents for UFC 245 The former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo has moved down to bantamweight to fight the No 1 ranked contender Marlon Moraes. ‘Magic’ Moraes last fought the bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo in June at UFC 238. His shot at the title fell flat as ‘Triple C’ finished him via TKO in the third round. Jose Aldo is looking to return to championship glory and take the bantamweight belt from Henry Cejudo. A win against the No 1 ranked contender, Moraes, could lead to that title shot.

It appears that Urijah Faber has once again decided to hang up the gloves. The UFC Hall of Famer ended his two-and-a-half-year retirement in July when he returned at UFC Sacramento and TKO’d Ricky Simon. Following the win, Urijah Faber wanted something big and called for a title shot against Henry Cejudo. However, that never came to fruition and he was offered a fight against a surging contender in Petr Yan.

After a solid first round, the Brazilian started to fade and Cejudo TKO’d him in the third. After the fight, the Olympic gold medalist mentioned how he wanted to defend both titles. However, that won’t happen this year as Henry Cejudo is out until early 2020 due to shoulder surgery. With that, Petr Yan wants an interim title fight against Aljamain Sterling, who both won their respective bouts at UFC 238.

In the card’s main event, a new bantamweight champion will be crowned as the vacant title will be fought over when flyweight champion, Henry Cejudo moves up to face Marlon Moraes. As the UFC has been doing lately, they’ve installed back up fights or fighters in the case that the main event or title fight has an issue with one of its participants. In the UFC 238 co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko looks to defend her flyweight title against Jessica Eye. Also on the card is Joanne Calderwood facing Katlyn Chookagian. Calderwood has revealed since the fight’s announcement that she will be on standby in case something happens in the title fight.
