Poirier KOed McGregor in the second round of their UFC 257 main event. The fight was a non-title bout, with the winner being in line to potentially fight UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, the champ is likely going to retire instead, which would set up a vacant title at 155lbs. Poirier is almost certainly going to fight for the title in his next fight, but his next opponent still unknown.

With UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov likely headed into retirement, there will soon be a vacant title that will be fought for. Poirier seems likely to be one half of that fight, but his opponent is still a mystery, with potential opponents including Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler, and Nate Diaz, amongst others. It’s very fair to say that, right now, the lightweight division is wide open, but with Poirier a slight step ahead.

At this point, it’s up in the air, but signs are pointing towards him retiring for good. If that’s the case, then he’s exiting on the best possible terms. White said this week that one of the biggest illegal streaming websites was under surveillance by the UFC, and ultimately that website did not put up the event. At the UFC 257 post-fight press conference, White further explained how they caught the streamer and pointed to what’s next.

An exciting welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley and Vicente Luque is the latest addition to the upcoming UFC 260 pay-per-view in March. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to reveal that Woodley will take on Luque at UFC 260. The card takes place on March 27 and features a main event between UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. The co-main event sees UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan taking on No. 1 contender Aljamain Sterling. UFC women’s strawweight Joanne Calderwood issued a statement following her unanimous decision win over Jessica Eye at UFC 257. In the pre-fight to the pair’s pay-per-view main card bout at UFC 257, Calderwood promised to punch Eye in the face, and she accomplished all that and more in the fight. The Las Vegas-trained fighter took it to Eye for the full 15 minutes, punching and kicking her all over en route to a unanimous decision win. It was a big fight for Calderwood, who lost in upset fashion to Jennifer Maia in her last fight. She needed a good fight against Eye to prove her worth to the champion Valentina Shevchenko, and she did that. With the win over Eye, Calderwood is back to being a title contender.
