Uriah Hall vs. Sean Strickland set for UFC 265 this summer

An exciting middleweight bout between top-15 ranked fighters Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland will take place at the UFC 265 event this summer. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the Hall vs. Strickland matchup, which will take place on August 7 at UFC 265. The event currently does not have the main event scheduled for it, but it does feature UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes against Julianna Pena. In addition, the card also features a pair of bantamweight bouts between Vince Morales and Drako Rodriguez, and Johnny Munoz and Jamey Simmons.

The UFC 262 weigh-ins took place on Friday in Houston, Texas, and headliners Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira both made weight. Both Oliveira and Chandler came in at 155lbs, so both men officially weighed in at the lightweight championship weight limit for this vacant title bout. Oliveira has won his last eight fights in a row to earn this shot at the belt, while Chandler has won three straight fights including a KO over Dan Hooker in his UFC debut. Oliveira vs. Chandler is an outstanding fight on paper and serves as an incredible main event for UFC 262.

Beneil Dariush has taken notice of what Darren Till said about Yoel Romero, and he believes he has the same thing going on with Justin Gaethje. In the lead-up to UFC 249 in May of 2020, Dariush was a big part of Gaethje’s training camp to prepare for Tony Ferguson. Since then, the two have become good friends and have trained together. However, the ninth-ranked lightweight, jokes he will be avoiding the Gaethje fight as long as possible.
Jorge Masvidal drops two spots in latest UFC welterweight rankings

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal dropped two spots in the latest UFC rankings update after his recent loss at UFC 261. The latest rankings update dropped earlier this week, and Masvidal moved down two spots at 170lbs. While he was previously ranked No. 5 in the division, “Gamebred” has now dropped down to No. 7 overall, with Vicente Luque moving up to No. 5 and Michael Chiesa at No. 6. In addition to Masvidal dropping down two spots in the welterweight rankings, Neil Magny moved up to No. 8 in the division and Demian Maia dropped down to No. 9.

UFC color commentator Michael Bisping revealed that the upcoming Darren Till vs. Derek Brunson middleweight fight will take place at UFC London. Till vs. Brunson was revealed earlier this week to take place as the headliner of the UFC’s August 14 event. However, no venue or location was announced for the card at the time. Most figured it would take place in Las Vegas, where the UFC has exclusively held its Fight Night cards for the past year, but according to Bisping, the fight takes place in London.
Amanda Ribas still dealing with COVID-19 symptoms after Angela Hill fight cancelation

UFC women’s strawweight contender Amanda Ribas is still dealing with COVID-19 symptoms after the Angela Hill fight cancelation. Ribas and Hill were supposed to meet at UFC Vegas 26 last weekend at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but the fight was canceled on fight day after Ribas and her father tested positive for the coronavirus. The UFC was forced to cancel the fight out of an abundance of caution but was able to work quickly to re-book the bout for June 5. However, it’s possible that the re-booking between Ribas and Hill might not take place as planned, either.

A San Diego Padres fan landed a vicious right hand that knocked out a Colorado Rockies supporter at a baseball game on Wednesday night. Apparently, a verbal argument between two fans turned violent, and it saw a Padres fan land a right hand out of hell that knocked the Rockies fan out almost instantly. As soon as the Rockies fan was knocked out, there was a brawl that ensued among the fans.

Tony Ferguson had some harsh words for Michael Chandler and believes he was handed a UFC title shot. After Chandler signed with the UFC, he was linked to fights with Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson. The latter of which was supposed to take place in October at UFC 254, but due to contract negotiations, the fight never took place. According to “El Cucuy” he says it was on Chandler’s side.

UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell will be the special guest referee for the upcoming Lamar Odom vs. Aaron Carter celebrity boxing match. Odom, the former NBA star, and Carter, the former pop singer, will fight each other on June 11 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. FITE TV made the announcement on Thursday that Liddell, the longtime UFC light heavyweight champion and one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, will be the special guest referee for the fight. Jack Hermansson is eager to return to the Octagon at UFC Vegas 27 on May 22. Hermansson is coming off a decision loss to Marvin Vettori, in a fight Hermansson was scheduled to face Darren Till and then Kevin Holland. Early on in the fight, the Swede broke his orbital which he says impacted him greatly in the fight.

UFC welterweight Alan Jouban says he turned down a short-notice fight against Carlos Condit before announcing his retirement from MMA. Jouban announced earlier this week that he is retiring from competing in mixed martial arts and will instead be all-in on his career as a UFC broadcaster. Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Jouban opened up about his decision to retire from the sport. He said it was a difficult call, but ultimately one he had to make. However, he admits that recently turning down a fight against Carlos Condit — a dream matchup for him — wasn’t easy to do.

UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz has angrily refuted the claims that he filed for “fraudulent” welfare aid during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Daily Mail, Ortiz has collected $179-per-week checks from the United States government after applying for COVID-19 relief. Ortiz has reportedly been collecting the relief checks since July 2020 despite the fact that he has been the Huntington Beach pro tem mayor since November 2020, a position that pays him $1400 a month.

Heavyweight Yorgan de Castro is among the latest UFC roster cuts as nine more fighters have been released by the world’s top MMA promotion. MMAFighting.com reported the latest roster cuts. Some of these cuts were previously reported, but three of the cuts are new as the UFC keeps on making changes to the roster. We already knew that Luke Sanders, Anthony Birchak, Aalon Cruz, KB Bhullar, Jordan Griffin, and Bartosz Fabinski were released, but we can now add three more names to the list as de Castro, Oskar Piechota, and Justine Kish were all also cut by the UFC.
