Kevin Holland notes improved takedown defense, calls for rematch with Kyle Daukaus

UFC middleweight contender Kevin Holland noted his improved takedown defense as he called for a rematch with Kyle Daukaus after UFC Vegas 38. Holland was knocked out by an accidental clash of heads, but he quickly woke back up and continued fighting against Daukaus in the co-main event of this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 38 card. About a minute after suffering the unfortunate knockdown, Holland was choked out by Daukaus. However, the fight was overturned to a No Contest after instant replay was used and it was deemed that the end of the fight was a result of the clash of heads.

UFC welterweight fan favorite Niko Price says he is open to fighting either Nick Diaz or Nate Diaz following his latest win at UFC Vegas 38. Price won a unanimous decision over Alex Oliveira in a main card welterweight battle that took place at this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 38 card. For Price, it was a much-needed win after going winless in his last three fights entering the contest. Following the fight, the fan favorite spoke to reporters and was asked who he wants to fight next. As far as Price goes, he’s down for another exciting fight for the fans, and he feels the Diaz brothers are perfect.

Dustin Poirier says the Charles Oliveira contract for their UFC lightweight title fight at UFC 269 is now “signed, sealed, delivered.” Poirier and Oliveira are set to meet in the main event of the UFC 269 pay-per-view card that is set to take place on December 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. There have been rumors for weeks that this is the fight the UFC wanted to book, but it wasn’t made official until Sunday night when Poirier took to his social media and confirmed it.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 38, top-10 light heavyweights collided as Thiago Santos was looking to return to the win column opposite Johnny Walker. Santos entered the fight coming off a lackluster decision loss to Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 259. Prior to that, he was submitted by Glover Teixeira and before that, lost a split decision to Jon Jones for the belt. Walker, meanwhile, hadn’t fought in a year but was coming off a TKO win over Ryan Spann to get back into the win column.

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling explained why he withdrew from his scheduled UFC 267 rematch against his rival, Petr Yan. Sterling defeat Yan via a controversial fourth-round DQ back at UFC 259 in March. Yan was in complete control of the fight and was well on his way to finishing it or at least winning a decision. However, he made a colossal error when he landed an illegal knee to the head of a downed opponent. Sterling was not able to continue and, in a UFC first, the belt changed hands via DQ. Although Yan deserved to be punished for his infraction, there are many fans out there who are not buying Sterling as a champion due to him winning the fight by DQ.

Chael Sonnen believes the UFC is punishing former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones by keeping him under contract with the promotion. Sonnen and Jones were former rivals and even fought once in the Octagon, with Jones winning by TKO back in 2013 after the two coached The Ultimate Fighter. Last week, Jones was arrested in Las Vegas on charges of domestic battery and damaging a police vehicle. It has led to calls from some fans and media for the UFC to release Jones from his contract.

Bellator welterweight contender Michael Page wants a trilogy fight with Douglas Lima following their controversial rematch at Bellator 267. Page defeated Lima via split decision in the main event of Bellator 267 in what was a three-round welterweight fight. It was a close contest for as long as it was contested, but many fans and media felt that Lima did enough to take home the decision. In the end, the judges sided with Page via split decision, but it appears as though “MVP” is not satisfied with the result. Speaking to reporters following Bellator 267, Page called for a trilogy fight with Lima to settle the score. And better yet, Page is asking Bellator to book the fight for five rounds.

Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo called for the Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler trilogy fight following their recent rematch at UFC 266. Diaz and Lawler met in a middleweight bout at UFC 266 last month, and Lawler won the fight in the third round by TKO. It was a rematch 17 years in the making after the two previously met at UFC 47 in 2004, with Diaz winning that fight via knockout. All these years later and these two rivals met again, but this time with Lawler getting the better of Diaz and getting the finish. It was a good fight for as long as it lasted, and UFC president Dana White praised Diaz for his performance in the fight. But at the end of the day, Diaz lost the fight via TKO and it’s unknown if he has any interest in fighting in the UFC again.

The poster for the upcoming UFC 268: Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington 2 event next month has been officially revealed by the UFC. UFC 268 is set to take place on November 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, and the world’s leading MMA promotion has brought a stacked card with them. In the main event, Usman meets Covington in a rematch. These two met two years ago in the main event of UFC 245 and Usman won the fifth via fifth-round TKO. The rematch is highly anticipated and it should be a phenomenal fight for as long as it lasts. In addition to the rematch between Usman and Covington, there is also a rematch in the co-main event between UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and rival Weili Zhang. With UFC 268 just around the corner, the organization revealed the official event poster for it.

The two heavyweights will go at it for five rounds or less in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card set for December 18. For Daukaus, it’s a well-deserved opportunity to fight a top-five ranked opponent after knocking out all four of his UFC foes so far. As for Lewis, following a one-sided loss to Ciryl Gane in his last fight, he needs to defend his No. 3 ranking now.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones provided the latest update on his relationship with his fiancée, Jessie Moses. Jones was arrested last week in Las Vegas following the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony where his fight with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 was inducted into the HOF. After the ceremony, Jones was arrested after an alleged domestic battery incident. As well, Jones allegedly head-butted the top of a police car and was also arrested for that. It was a bad situation and UFC president Dana White later said that Jones needs to stay out of Vegas.

Jorge Masvidal responded after Leon Edwards accused him of turning down a UFC fight: “I fought for the belt twice. Why would I fight you?” Masvidal has not fought since being knocked out by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 261 back in April. Following that fight, Masvidal has been connected to matchups against the likes of fellow welterweight contenders in Edwards and Gilbert Burns, but so far, he has not been booked for a fight. And if you ask Masvidal, when he does eventually step back into the Octagon, he won’t be fighting against Edwards next.

Holland and Daukaus clashed heads in the first round in their middleweight bout at UFC Vegas 38, which led to Holland being knocked down to the floor. However, he immediately woke back up, and referee Dan Miragliotta did not stop the fight. A minute later, Daukaus choked Holland out with a rear-naked choke. It appeared as though Daukaus would get the win, but after using instant replay, the referee determined that the clash of heads was what led to the finish, and the referee ultimately decided to rule the bout a No Contest.

It was reported last week that O’Malley would be fighting Paiva at UFC 269, which is set to take place on December 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, “Suga” later took to his Twitch to deny that the fight was taking place. It seems like that was some sort of posturing from O’Malley, as just days after he denied to confirm the fight, it’s now official. On Saturday, O’Malley took to his social media to share a photo of him signing the contract to fight Paiva at UFC 269. Take a look at what “Suga” shared on his Instagram.

Former Cage Warriors champion and new UFC star Paddy Pimblett responded to the recent callout from UFC Vegas 38 winner Jared Gordon. Gordon defeated Joe Solecki via split decision in a grind of a fight that served as the headliner of the UFC Vegas 38 preliminary card. For Gordon, it’s his third straight win in the UFC and his first since moving back up to 155lbs. Immediately following his big win over Solecki, Gordon used his post-fight interview as the chance to call out Pimblett. The Brit recently made his UFC debut with a KO win over Luigi Vendramini and Gordon hopes that he gets the chance to fight him next. And it appears as though Pimblett is interested, too.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia retired following her unanimous decision loss to Karol Rosa at UFC Vegas 38. Correia was shut out by Rosa in what was the final fight of her MMA career on Saturday at UFC Vegas 38. The retirement did not come as a surprise as Correia said before the fight that she planned on retiring from MMA, win, lose, or draw. Still, it’s never easy to see a fighter walk away from the sport, and after losing to Rosa, Correia spoke to reporters about her decision to leave the sport. According to Correia, Saturday night was very emotional.
