What's next for the stars of UFC 269?

The final UFC pay-per-view of 2021 went down on Saturday as the promotion returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a stacked UFC 269 card. The event saw two titles on the line as Charles Oliveira was defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. The co-main event saw Amanda Nunes return to bantamweight to battle Julianna Pena. UFC 269 ended up being a phenomenal card as in the main event it was Oliveira winning by third-round submission after being dropped early. In the co-main event, Pena pulled off a massive upset as she submitted Nunes to dethrone the long-reigning champ. Now, after UFC 269 here is what I think should be next for the four fighters involved in the title fights.

The opening betting odds have been released for a future UFC lightweight title fight between champion Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje. Oliveira submitted Dustin Poirier in the third round of their lightweight title main event that headlined this past Saturday’s UFC 269 card. It was the 10th straight win for Oliveira, who had beaten Michael Chandler by stoppage back at UFC 262 earlier this year to win the vacant title. With former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov now retired, Oliveira is the clear top dog in the world at 155lbs. ‘Do Bronx’ has shown he is an improved version of himself, and that makes him one of the most dangerous finishers in the UFC.

Moreno took the MMA world by storm earlier this year when he submitted his archrival, Deivieson Figueiredo, via third-round rear-naked choke to win the UFC flyweight title. As the division’s champion, Moreno has to always keep a close eye on what else is happening in the 125lbs division. At UFC 269, there was a huge flyweight fight between the former bantamweight champion Garbrandt and one of the top contenders in the weight class in Kara-France. Although Garbrandt was a slight betting favorite heading into the fight, it was Kara-France who beat the odds as the underdog by knocking out Garbrandt in round one.

Justin Gaethje is excited to meet UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in 2022, saying that “I can’t wait to break his face.” Gaethje is the No. 1 contender in the UFC lightweight division now that Oliveira defeated Dustin Poirier to defend the UFC lightweight title. Oliveira’s submission win over Poirier in the main event of UFC 269 showed once again that he is the best lightweight in the sport now that former champ Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired. With Poirier now out of the way, Gaethje is next up in line to fight Oliveira and he can’t wait to get in there and fight him.

The opening betting odds have been released for a potential rematch between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes. Pena shocked the world on Saturday night at UFC 269 when she was able to finish Nunes in the second round via a rear-naked choke. It was one of the biggest upsets of all time in MMA history as Nunes was a -1000 betting favorite to win the fight, with Pena as a +600 betting underdog. For Pena, the fact that she was able to defeat one of the GOATs in Nunes and do so by stoppage has to be one of the craziest things we have ever seen in the UFC.

UFC women’s flyweight prospect Miranda Maverick reacted following her lopsided decision loss to Erin Blanchfield at UFC 269. Maverick was taken down at will, controlled on the ground, and beaten up en route to a unanimous decision loss on the judges’ scorecards in her preliminary card fight against Blanchfield. For Maverick, this is her second straight loss in 2021 following a split decision defeat to Maycee Barber earlier this year. While it has been a tough year for Maverick, she continues to hold her head high and keep looking on towards the future of her MMA career.

UFC featherweight fighter Ryan Hall released a statement following his much-needed victory over Darrick Minner at UFC 269. Hall entered this fight against Minner, a fellow grappler, coming off of an absolutely brutal KO loss to Ilia Topuria earlier this year at UFC 264. For Hall, he was unbeaten in the UFC heading into that Topuria fight, which really stalled his momentum in the stacked UFC featherweight division. But for Hall, he was looking forward to getting back into the Octagon and righting those wrongs, and he got to do that on Saturday against Minner.

New UFC women’s bantamweight champ Julianna Pena offered former champ Amanda Nunes an immediate rematch following her crazy upset at UFC 269. Pena submitted Nunes in the second round in what was one of the craziest upsets we have ever seen in MMA history. After Nunes won the first round, Pena was able to get the better of Nunes on the feet in the second round, and then she got her to the ground and choked her out. It was an absolutely amazing showing by Pena, who proved that she was a worthy challenger for the title. Still, there are many people who believe this was a bit of a fluke and they want to see a rematch as soon as possible, and Pena is all for that happening.

UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley revealed the rib injury that he sustained during his UFC 269 training camp for Raulian Paiva. O’Malley knocked out Paiva in the first round in what was the opening main card bout on the UFC 269 pay-per-view card. It was another amazing performance by O’Malley, who is 3-0 so far in 2021 with knockout wins over Paiva, Thomas Almeida, and Kris Moutinho. For O’Malley, though, he almost didn’t even make it to this fight with Paiva. According to “Sugar,” who spoke to the media following UFC 269, he had a nasty rib injury that he sustained during his training camp. According to O’Malley, he didn’t spar for three weeks.

UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira issued a statement following his submission win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 269. Oliveira submitted Poirier in the third round with a rear-naked choke in a back-and-forth fight that headlined the UFC 269 pay-per-view. For Oliveira, he had to survive a tough first round where Poirier dropped him to the mat and nearly finished him with strikes. After losing the first round, Oliveira was able to use his grappling skills to win the second round. In the third round, Oliveira was able to get Poirier next to the cage, and then he was able to take his back skillfully and then tap him out with a rear-naked choke. It was an absolutely phenomenal win by Oliveira, who proved once again he’s the best at 155lbs.
