UFC Vegas 48 Bonus Report: Kyle Daukaus among four 'POTN' winners

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 48 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Johnny Walker vs. Jamahal Hill. The highly anticipated light heavyweight main event did not make it out of the first round. Johnny Walker was able to get off some good kicks in the opening moments of the fight but wound up on the receiving end of a big overhand right from Jamahal Hill which put him on queer street. After hitting the Brazilian hit the canvas, ‘Sweet Dreams’ promptly put him away with a nasty follow up right (see that here).

Walker (18-7 MMA) was hoping to return to the win column this evening in Las Vegas. The Brazilian had last competed in October of 2021, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Santos. That setback was preceded by a knockout victory over Ryan Spann.

The 36-year-old, Alberta native started his MMA career out 2-5 but has since rallied off nine wins in a row, including his last on the Contender Series. He will now make his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 48 against Jesse Strader which is a fight he’s excited about.

India Arie has given some advice to UFC commentator Joe Rogan. The comedian has been in the headlines for a variety of controversies the past month. First getting into trouble for his comments on vaccines, he’s since come under fire for racism. A video that went viral featured Rogan using racial slurs, as well as making a joke where he compares an all-black neighborhood to the movie ‘Planet of the Apes’.

PFL Challengers is starting up with its first event this week. Ahead of the inaugural show, the promotion has announced it has some interesting judges. The PFL Challengers Series operates very similarly to the Dana White Contender Series. There are multiple fights, and then the best fighters are selected to be brought into the promotion.

Both men are all-action fighters as they are always in entertaining fights, and for “Iron” he says he’s eager to test himself against someone like Ferguson.
Chad Mendes reveals the UFC allowed his BKFC bout, open to possible MMA return down the line

Ahead of his BKFC debut, Chad Mendes has revealed that he’s still signed to the UFC. Mendes retired from MMA in 2019 following a loss to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 232. During his eight year stint in the UFC, he was considered amongst the most entertaining fighters in the promotion. He also challenged for gold on three different occasions, coming up short against Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.

Kevin Lee was released from the UFC back in November 2021 after suffering setbacks in four of his final five Octagon appearances. The former UFC interim lightweight title contender had multiple fights left on his contract, but the UFC chose to release him.

Brendan Schaub spoke on his ‘The Schaub Show’ podcast about a Kamaru Usman vs Khamzat Chimaev potential future fight. Khamzat (10-0 MMA), the welterweight force to be reckoned with, has currently agreed to fight Gilbert Burns (20-4 MMA) at UFC 273 on April 9th, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida . Confirmation from the UFC is still to come.

Following UFC 271 last Saturday, February 12th Brendan Schaub did a recap on his ‘The Schaub Show’ podcast on YouTube. Schaub spoke about UFC President, Dana White, and vowed to never ‘talk sh*t about Dana White again’. Schaub (10-5 MMA) officially retired from the UFC back in 2015. Since then he has gone on to perform stand-up comedy and is currently active as a podcast host.

UFC middleweight Sean Strickland has echoed Marvin Vettori by confirming that Beneil Dariush is legitimately injured. Next Saturday’s Fight Night main event was supposed to see Beneil Dariush take on Islam Makhachev in an important lightweight clash, with many believing the winner would earn themselves a shot at the title. Alas, an injury to Dariush has ruled him out of the contest, with Bobby Green now stepping in on short notice to try and stop the surge of Makhachev.
Spotify’s deal with Joe Rogan is worth double what was originally reported

A recent report has indicated that the deal between Spotify and Joe Rogan is actually worth around $200 million as opposed to $100 million. Over the course of the last few weeks there’s been a lot of talk surrounding the future of Joe Rogan. The controversial podcaster and UFC commentator has come under fire for some of his previous remarks, with the backlash including a viral video of him saying the N-word over and over.

Chimaev (10-0 MMA), age 27, has taken the UFC by storm since making his Octagon debut in July of 2020. ‘The Wolf’ has scored stoppage wins in all four of his UFC fights, finishing opponents John Phillips, Rhys McKee, Gerald Meerschaert and Li Jingliang along the way.

Jonathan Pearce plans to show Christian Rodriguez that there are levels to this game. Pearce was supposed to fight Austin Lingo at UFC Vegas 48. However, Lingo was forced to withdraw from the contest and the undefeated fighter in Rodriguez stepped up. Although Rodriguez is undefeated and even won the Contender Series, Pearce doesn’t think he’s on his level and he’ll show that with a first-round finish.
