Tonight’s UFC Vegas 54 event is co-headlined by a light heavyweight contest between Ryan Spann and Ion Cutelaba. Spann (19-7 MMA) will enter the bout looking to rebound, this after suffering a submission loss to Anthony Smith his last time out. Prior to that loss, ‘Superman’ had scored a first round TKO victory over Misha Cirkunov.

Dustin Poirier accepts challenge from Colby Covington

Dustin Poirier has accepted the challenge laid out by former teammate Colby Covington at UFC 272. Covington had called out Poirier following his unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at March’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz expects to be fighting for gold again soon. The Polish fighter has been out of the octagon since UFC 267 in October 2021. Blachowicz was submitted by Glover Teixeira at the event, losing his UFC gold in the process. The defeat was his first since 2018, a knockout loss to Thiago Santos.

UFC flyweight Alexandre Pantoja is a little bit confused by the booking of Brandon Moreno vs. Kai Kara-France. An interim flyweight championship bout between Moreno and Kara-France is set for UFC 277 this July. The title fight was booked mainly due to Deiveson Figueiredo’s current hand injury. The injury is expected to hold the Brazilian out of action until the end of the year.

Prior to that setback, Daley had put together a three-fight win streak. The British standout is looking to secure one last victory before riding off into the sunset.

Luke Rockhold believes it was a smart move by Khamzat Chimaev to turn him down. While Rockhold was hinting at a return to the Octagon earlier this year, he claims he was offered Chimaev and accepted the fight. Yet, the Swede turned it down as he wanted to stay at welterweight and ended up facing Li Jingliang and then Gilbert Burns. As for Rockhold, he was booked to fight Sean Strickland at UFC 268 but it didn’t come to fruition and he will now face Paulo Costa at UFC 277.

Frank Camacho will finally make the walk to the Octagon again after a hectic two years. After Camacho suffered a TKO loss to Justin Jaynes in June of 2020, he was booked to fight Brok Weaver in September. Yet, on fight week he tested positive for COVID and the fight was scratched. The bad luck didn’t stop there as he was set to return at UFC 263 against Matt Frevola but once again on fight week, he was involved in a serious car crash that has kept him out of the Octagon for nearly a year.

The fight was regarded as one of the worst in MMA history, as neither did much. Following the bout, Namajunas’s trainer Pat Barry said that recent drama could’ve affected her.
