Patricky Freire vows to reclaim Bellator lightweight gold following lopsided loss to Usman Nurmagomedov: “It won't happen again”

Patricky “Pitbull” Freire heard two words he was dreading to hear at the end of his Bellator Lightweight Championship fight against Usman Nurmagomedov. Those words were, “And new.” Freire put the 155-pound gold on the line against Nurmagomedov in the co-main event of Bellator 288 on November 18. This one was one-sided as Nurmagomedov never allowed Freire to get going. It was a clean sweep for Nurmagomedov, who earned score totals of 50–45, 50–44, and 50–44.
Gilbert Burns agrees to rematch Khamzat Chimaev at “any weight” following offer for UFC 283

Gilbert Burns has responded to Khamzat Chimaev’s suggestion for a rematch at UFC 283. Burns and Chimaev did battle back in April. The three-round barn burner earned “Fight of the Night” honors and raised the stocks of both men. In the end, it was Chimaev who picked up the unanimous decision victory.
KSI vs. Dillon Danis boxing match set for January 14

KSI and Dillon Danis will settle their beef in the boxing ring as it was announced this evening that the pair will meet on January 14th. The news comes just a day after KSI and Danis had an altercation at the Misfits 003 boxing weigh-ins. Danis, who rose to fame as Conor McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach, crashed yesterday’s event and got into a scuffle with the owner and face of the upstart promotion, YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI. As seen in the video below, Danis hit KSI with a drink and what appeared to be a jab to the face.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 65 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Derrick Lewis vs. Sergey Spivak. Tonight’s light heavyweight main event resulted in a wild back and forth affair. Ion Cutelaba had a strong opening round, hurting Kennedy Nzechukwu and taking him down on multiple occasions. However, the ‘African Savage’ was able to weather the storm and wound up putting ‘The Hulk’ away with some nasty knees and punches early on in Round 2.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 65 event is headlined by a light heavyweight contest featuring Kennedy Nzechukwu taking on Ion Cutelaba. Cutelaba (16-9-1 MMA) will be looking to snap a two-fight losing skid when he takes to the Octagon this evening. ‘The Hulk’ is coming off back-to-back submission losses to Ryan Spann and Johnny Walker in his most recent efforts. The Moldova native has gone just 1-4-1 over his past six UFC appearances.

Alexander (17-16-1 MMA, 3-0 BKFC) entered the contest sporting a 2-0 record in Bare Knuckle boxing. The 50-year-old veteran had most recently competed in May of this year, scoring a first-round TKO victory over Jay Fish.

Scott Coker took it slow when COVID-19 took over the world, as he held his Bellator events at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut without fans. Unlike the UFC, who forged ahead earlier than any other MMA promotion or major sports league, Bellator remained complacent that the right time would eventually come. And, sure enough, it did. Over the last eight months or so, Bellator has returned to the likes of Ireland, San Jose, Arizona, Italy and many others locations. One of those locations in the ladder category is Chicago, Ill., as Bellator 288 plays host to two title fights at the top of the bill, including light heavyweight title challenger Corey “Overtime” Anderson, as he’ll rematch Vadim Nemkov in the finals of the long-awaited conclusion of the Grand Prix.

Dillon Danis got into multiple altercations during a weigh-in for Misfits Boxing 3 earlier today. The jiu-jitsu artist has been out of the Bellator cage since a submission win over Max Humphrey. That win moved Danis forward to 2-0 in his MMA career, but he hasn’t seemed that interested in fighting in the sport anyway. He’s since targeted a move to boxing.

Pereira done the unthinkable this past Saturday and claimed the UFC middleweight championship by dethroning Israel Adesanya. Unthinkable to many, but the Brazilian was filled with confidence having previously defeated Adesanya twice in kickboxing.
