At UFC 284, Alex Volkanovski will challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title. If he manages to pull off the win, he’ll become a two-weight UFC champion after already capturing the featherweight crown.

It’s safe to say that at this point in time, Alex Volkanovski is the pound-for-pound best fighter in MMA. He’ll put that title on the line at UFC 284 but for the time being, that’s the popular opinion.

While we’d all rather be discussing what Conor McGregor does inside the Octagon, that’s been pretty hard to do recently. The Irishman hasn’t been seen since his leg break against Dustin Poirier in summer 2021.

Dana White and his wife Anne got into an altercation on New Year’s Eve. White and his wife were in a crowded Cabo San Lucas nightclub with their friends and plenty of bystanders when White and his wife got into an altercation. According to the UFC boss, he says the fight was fueled by alcohol. The video was captured by TMZ.

Body cam footage of the police talking to Colby Covington after the alleged Jorge Masvidal altercation has been released. In March of 2022 – after Covington beat Masvidal at UFC 272 – Masvidal allegedly jumped and assaulted Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse. The punch allegedly broke Covington’s tooth among other minor injuries.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz still has some fight in him after all. ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ has had an interesting last few years. Ortiz famously retired from MMA following a win over Chael Sonnen in 2017, but it was short-lived. The following year, the former titleholder signed with Golden Boy MMA to face Chuck Liddell in a trilogy bout.

Despite being a heavy favorite, ‘Sugar’ suffered an early leg injury, and wound up being TKO’d in the first round. The result was the first defeat of O’Malley’s career thus far.

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction, as evidenced by Jose Aldo’s new housemate. ‘Junior’ recently wrapped up his MMA career in August at UFC 278 against Merab Dvalishvili. The Brazilian was hoping to get a title shot with a win, as he admitted he was disinterested in fighting for anything but championships. Aldo wound up coming up short by unanimous decision.

Jake Paul is reportedly done facing older UFC legends, according to himself, anyway. ‘The Problem Child’ has been out of the ring since October when he faced Anderson Silva. The bout was the biggest test of the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s career thus far, and he lived up to expectations. While the fight was close, an eighth-round knockdown sealed the win for Paul by decision.

The UFC has added Englishmen and undefeated Cage Warriors champion Christian Leroy Duncan to their roster. The announcement came after Duncan was expected to headline Cage Warriors 148 on New Year’s Eve against 49-fight veteran Jesse Taylor. Taylor, who has competed on The Ultimate Fighter twice before, was the victim of a hit-and-run incident that forced him to go to the hospital and withdraw from the bout.

UFC lightweight contender Damir Ismagulov closes the curtain on his career and announces his retirement from MMA. On Sunday, Ismagulov revealed on Instagram that ongoing health issues had forced him to hang up the gloves. The 31-year-old didn’t give much away but thanked his followers for the support throughout his mixed martial arts career.
