Rockhold (16-6 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since scoring a third-round TKO victory over Joe Schilling under the Karate Combat banner in April of 2024. The former UFC middleweight champion was very confident he would be able to play spoiler against his British opponent this afternoon in England.

Ferguson (25-11 MMA) had entered the contest with hopes of snapping an eight-fight losing skid. ‘El Cucuy’ was most previously seen in action at UFC Abu Dhabi in August of last year, where he suffered a first-round submission defeat at the hands of Michael Chiesa. That loss was of course preceded by setbacks to Paddy Pimblett, King Green, Michael Chandler and Nate Diaz respectively.

Aaron Pico had a fairly tumultuous UFC debut in Chicago earlier this month when he was felled with a viral spinning back elbow, with a former opponent of Pico’s weighing in on that contest. Jeremy Kennedy offered up his viewpoint on that fight ahead of his return to Battlefield Fight League as Kennedy vies for the BFL interim lightweight title against Jeremy Henry at BFL 84 on September 4th. Kennedy secured a win over Aaron Pico under the Bellator banner when Pico lost via first round shoulder injury at Bellator 286 in October 2022. Bogdan Guskov has been putting together an impressive winning streak at 205 pounds and is reportedly preparing for arguably his toughest challenge yet. Pet Guskov’s manager, his next opponent will be against a former UFC light heavyweight champion who has fought inside the octagon against the likes of Alex Pereira as well as Magomed Ankalaev. This series of events kicked off with a recent social media post from Jan Blachowicz, who posted an Instagram story signing a fight contract and using a sword to embed his signature. This tease of fight news coming soon for the pugilist with the Polish power had many buzzing, and Guskov’s manager also took to IG to confirm that the two combatants would be meeting next.

Don’t expect Aaron Pico to return to the Octagon in 2025. Pico made his UFC debut against Lerone Murphy inside the United Center in Chicago. The UFC 319 co-main event was a pivotal bout in the featherweight division. Pico was knocked out in spectacular fashion by a spinning back elbow in the opening frame.

Merab Dvalishvili thinks Umar Nurmagomedov would be in for a rude awakening if they meet again down the road. Dvalishvili is currently focused on his next UFC Bantamweight Championship defense. He’ll be putting his 135-pound gold at stake against Cory Sandhagen in the UFC 320 co-main event. The planned date for that showdown is Oct. 4 in Las Vegas.

Following a 1-3 run during his first stint in the UFC, which included a nasty leg injury, Modestas has proceeded to go 7-1, which has included a recent three-fight win streak.

Usman Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has hit out at his upcoming opponent Paul Hughes. On October 3rd, Paul Hughes will once again get the chance at glory when he battles Usman Nurmagomedov. In their first contest, Usman just about managed to edge past the Irishman via decision to ensure he retained his PFL/Bellator title. Now, however, given how close the first showdown was, many believe that this is the challenger’s opportunity to finally rise up and claim the gold.

Former UFC star Tony Ferguson has claimed that he feels great heading into his boxing match against Salt Papi. Tomorrow night, Tony Ferguson will make his return to active competition. However, it won’t be inside a mixed martial arts cage. Instead, he’ll be venturing into the boxing ring in order to lock horns with Salt Papi as part of the Misfits Boxing 22 card. It’s safe to say that not everyone is happy about this move from ‘El Cucuy’, but the man himself seems to be as confident as ever.

Denice Zamboanga suffered a crushing blow to her championship plans when medical issues forced her withdrawal from ONE 173. She must postpone her first title defense against Ayaka Miura due to health concerns beyond her control. Zamboanga was scheduled to defend her ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA World Title against Miura at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on November 16 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The 28-year-old Filipina announced her withdrawal via social media Thursday evening.

Bryan Battle did not hit the 185-pound mark in his initial attempt earlier this month, but did hit that weight limit, preparing to compete for another promotion before August closes out. His ill-fated UFC 319 weigh in attempt from August 16th saw not only his fight with Nursulton Ruziboev scrapped but Battle received his walking papers from the MMA powerhouse. This puglistic pink slip came after missing weight for a second time and in a second division no less. That weight miss also came in consecutive fight bookings but Battle did not have to wait long for his next assignment. The prior weight miss for the Missouri native came last December as Battle failed to hit the welterweight limit of 170 pounds against Randy Brown in a fight that Battle eventually won.

The UFC has started to fill out the UFC Rio de Janeiro Fight Night card in Brazil. The Octagon is returning to Rio on October 11, with the main event seeing Charles Oliveira taking on Rafael Fiziev in a pivotal lightweight bout. Now, the promotion has added plenty of new and exciting fights to the event, including the return of Valter Walker vs Mohammed Usman at heavyweight.

Appearing on the Full Send Podcast, the UFC bantamweight champion covered multiple topics ahead of his next title defense assignment in the Fall. Dvalishvili will defend his 135-pound crown against Cory Sandhagen in the co-main event of UFC 320 on October 4th.

Raul Rosas Jr. will no longer be preparing for the penultimate fight of the night spot at this year’s Noche UFC after being forced to withdraw from the card. In news first reported by Wristlock MMA, the man who utters ‘Chiwiwis’ will now no longer be competing on September 13th. The UFC Fight Night 259 bout for Rosas Jr. was planned to be against Rob Font but the former will no longer be in the co-main event spot. Sources told Mike Heck of MMA Fighting that the promotion is actively looking for a repalcement opponent for Font inside Frost Bank Arena in San Antonio but no one has been confirmed, as of this writing.

Aljamain Sterling emerged victorious at UFC Shanghai, but some damage was done. Sterling had a one-sided showing against Brian Ortega in their five-round featherweight clash. It was a clean sweep for “Funkmaster,” who secured 50-45 scores from all three judges. It was a big win for Sterling, who now finds himself in the top five featherweight rankings.
