In the UFC 284 main event, Volkanovski took part in a fight-of-the-year contender with lightweight standout Makhachev. He entered the bout a sizable underdog, but the performance from the Aussie would suggest otherwise. Volkanovski went toe-to-toe for five hard rounds with the champion, eventually dropping a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards.

It was announced earlier this month that the 31st season of the Ultimate Fighter will feature former UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the No. 5 ranked lightweight contender Michael Chandler go head-to-head as coaches. TUF 31 will premiere on Tuesday May 30th thru to August 15th on ESPN/ESPN+. Following the series, the two coaches will themselves battle it out in the Octagon, with a date and place yet to be determined.

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya has weighed in on Francis Ngannou’s UFC exit. Ngannou’s contract was coming due and he and UFC officials had a decision to make. Negotiations to renew Ngannou’s deal failed, and he is no longer a member of the UFC roster. As a result, Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane will compete for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 285 on March 4.

Some, such as UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, feel Volkanovski should’ve been awarded the victory.

The fight only lasted 66 seconds, as Tafa sent Porter to the canvas courtesy of a left hand. While many thought Tafa would be a shoo-in to earn a “Performance of the Night” bonus, that wasn’t the case.

The bout went the distance and Makhachev was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
