Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is in talks with several major professional wrestling promotions, including the WWE and AEW. ESPN’s Marc Raimondi shared the news, which came on the heels of a report by wrestling news guru Dave Meltzer. Here’s what Raimondi said.

Top middleweight contender Jared Cannonier was asked to give his thoughts on next weekend’s main event at UFC 243 between UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and interim champ Israel Adesanya, as he could potentially be next in line for the belt. With his knockout win over Jack Hermansson in the main event of UFC Copenhagen, Cannonier is closing in on a title shot. He’s likely still behind fellow contender Paulo Costa in the title pecking order, but that’s still a great spot for “The Killa Gorilla” to be in. After his TKO win over Hermansson, Cannonier was asked what he thinks about next week’s title fight, and he admitted he’ll be paying close attention to the matchup given he could potentially face the winner of it.
Scott Coker says he hoped Patricio "Pitbull" Freire picked another opponent in grand prix

Bellator president Scott Coker was asked what he thought about the Bellator featherweight world grand prix quarterfinals matchups, and he said that while he liked the matchups, he was hoping at least one of them was different. The fighters drew numbers and picked their matchups, with champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire having the final say during the selection show at Saturday night’s Bellator 228 event. The champ could have picked anyone he wanted to fight, including top prospect AJ McKee or his rival Darrion Caldwell. Instead, he chose little known Pedro Carvalho, a decision which raised eyebrows by fans who wanted the champ to take on a bigger name.

The main event of Bellator 228 saw long-time veterans Gegard Mousasi and Lyoto Machida rematch five years after meeting for the first time in the UFC. Machida won that fight via unanimous decision, and now five years later Mousasi has a victory in the series as he edged out a split decision over Machida in the rematch. Brazilian standout Gilbert Burns squared off with Gunnar Nelson in a welterweight bout earlier today at UFC Fight Night Copenhagen. Burns accepted the opportunity to fight Nelson on just two-weeks notice. Gunnar Nelson’s original opponent, Thiago Alves had to withdraw leaving the position open for Gilbert to fill. As a three-time BJJ champion, Gilbert Burns wanted the opportunity to challenge the ground game of Gunnar Nelson and put his grappling skills on full display.
