One of the most vicious beatings in UFC history took place this past Saturday in Tampa as lightweight Thomas Gifford was beaten down to a pulp and then knocked out cold late in the third round by Mike Davis. It was an extremely controversial fight with many members of the MMA community expressing their displeasure for the referee and Gifford’s corner for not stopping the fight. Gifford recently issued a statement saying that he’s fine and that he suffered no serious injuries despite taking such a brutal beating. Now he’s coming on the offensive against his critics, saying that they don’t know how tough he is and that he never questioned the referee or the corner’s decision to let him continue fighting.

Aspen Ladd issues statement after having her appeal denied by one vote

Aspen Ladd was one vote away from having her TKO loss to Germaine de Randamie overturned to a no-contest. Ladd appealed the result saying the fight was stopped too early. In the hearing, Aspen claimed that referee Herb Dean stopped the fight that early because she was a female. In the fight, de Randamie landed a solid shot that dropped Ladd on her face, and just like that the fight was over.

Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who has decided to end his retirement to compete in the heavyweight division, recently claimed he’d be willing to cut back down to 205 pounds to fight the division’s king Jon Jones. “I’m gonna wait until I get about, lose about 10 more pounds, get to 235lbs. I wanna see how my body feels. Then if it feels good, then I’m going to probably make 205lbs,” Johnson told Brendan Schaub of a fight with Jon Jones.

Jon Jones forced to pay almost $1.5m to debtors

According to a report from Bloody Elbow, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been “hit with multiple state and federal tax liens, dating back to December of 2018 and covering the tax years 2014-2016 (federal) and 2015-2017 (state).” Bloody Elbow’s report on Jones’ debt troubles, which cites official documents, states that the largest of these liens totaled roughly $1.3 million.

Colby Covington has chimed in on Twitter in response to the NBA-China saga. The 31-year old took aim at Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James for his recent comments on the situation. In a deleted tweet, manager of the Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey, said he supported pro-democracy protests in China. As China is a communist country, Morey’s comments spawned a ton of backlash and he ultimately was forced to issue an apology.

Speaking to Arab News, “The Eagle” was asked how long he plans on fighting for. Although he just turned 31, Nurmagomedov admits that he is already thinking about life after fighting. He says his goal now to continue to build his legacy before retiring in two years.
