Opinion: BMF title must die, but its brilliant concept should live on in the UFC

Jordy McElroy - November 7, 2019

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz didn’t really solve who the “baddest motherf**ker” on the planet was at UFC 244, but on a historic night built around a fictitious championship, they inexplicably, somehow solved the UFC’s pay-per-view problem. Not all bad motherf**kers wear capes, but that doesn’t make them any less of a hero.

MMA community reacts to Nate Diaz potential retirement

Natasha Hooper - November 7, 2019

Nate Diaz has said goodbye to the fight game and is no longer interested in a rematch with his UFC 244 foe Jorge Masvidal. Diaz returned to the Octagon from a three-year hiatus to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 241. He won this fight via unanimous decision. Last weekend, Diaz went on to face Jorge Masvidal for the “BMF” belt in one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the year. In this fight, which headlined UFC 244, both fighters showed incredible heart and toughness, but Masvidal gave a stronger performance. The fight was stopped by the doctor at the end of the third round due to a cut above Diaz’s eye, leaving “Gamebred” to claim BMF gold.

Coach: 'We'd see the same thing' in Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz rematch

Mike Heck - November 6, 2019

Jorge Masvidal was masterful in the main event of UFC 244 against Nate Diaz and the BMF champion’s head coach Mike Brown believes that a rematch wouldn’t go much differently. “Gamebred” defeated the gritty and tough Diaz via third-round TKO due to the cage side doctor stopping the fight after a huge cut was opened above the right eye of Diaz. Many were disappointed in the ending of the highly anticipated welterweight showdown at MSG, but Masvidal was clearly ahead on the judges’ scorecards and certainly didn’t seem to be slowing down.

Tom Taylor - November 5, 2019

UFC 244 was an exciting card by all accounts, highlighted by a number thrilling finishes and several back-and-forth brawls. An unfortunate side effect of cards of this kind, of course, is that they tend to take a physical toll on the fighters involved, resulting in lengthy medical suspensions. A number of fighters on the UFC 244 bill have been handed 90-day medical suspensions by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).

Cole Shelton - November 4, 2019

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz were looking to win the “BMF” title in the main event of UFC 244. The fight also could prove who deserves the next title shot at welterweight, so the stakes were high. In the end, it was Masvidal who got the job done due to a doctor stoppage at the end of the third round. It was a dominating performance for “Gamebred” who was up 30-26 on two of three judge’s scorecards. Yet, many thought the cut above Diaz’s eye that stopped the fight was not that bad, and after the fight, both said they have interest in running it back.
