Kevin Holland gave a brutally honest take on Michael Chiesa’s fighting future following UFC 291. Holland and Chiesa shared the Octagon in the UFC 291 main card opener. This one didn’t last long, as Holland was able to secure a choke in the opening frame. Chiesa has now lost three fights in a row and has been submitted in two of those fights. It’s a tough skid for Chiesa, who had previously been on a four-fight winning streak prior to this current stretch.

Michael Chiesa has spoken out on his quick loss to Kevin Holland. Chiesa vs. Holland opened up the main card for UFC 291. The two shared the Octagon inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. It didn’t take long for Holland to demonstrate just how far his grappling has come. Chiesa found himself in a choke and was forced to tap in the opening frame.

A welterweight bout between Kevin Holland and Michael Chiesa kicked off tonight’s UFC 291 pay-per-view card from Salt Lake City. Holland (25-9 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since April’s UFC 287 event in Miami, where he scored a stunning knockout victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio. That KO returned ‘Trailblazer’ to the win column, as he had previously suffered back-to-back losses to Stephen Thompson and Khamzat Chimaev respectively.

Michael Chiesa tried to face Bo Nickal at UFC 290. After Tresean Gore pulled out of his UFC 290 scrap against Nickal due to injury, the UFC was in need of an opponent. The promotion ended up settling on Val Woodburn, but Michael Chiesa claims he had previously spoke to the UFC about stepping up on short notice to fight Nickal and the making a quick turnaround to compete this weekend against Holland.

Michael Chiesa has rejected a claim from Kevin Lee that he offered to step in and fight him on short notice. After more than 18 months away, Michael Chiesa will return to the Octagon this weekend to face Kevin Holland. He’s currently riding a two-fight losing streak, with his hope being that he can bounce back in Salt Lake City.

Kevin Holland knows his takedown defense isn’t top level just yet but says it’s plenty good enough to beat Michael Chiesa at UFC 291. When Holland was fighting at middleweight, he was easily taken down by Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori. The losses showed a hole in his game and since then, Holland has dropped to welterweight and hasn’t had to show off much of his takedown defense as he has been fighting strikers.

Michael Chiesa won’t be fighting this Saturday at UFC 287. Chiesa was set to take on Li Jingliang in his first fight since November of 2021, as he had been dealing with an injury. However, last week it was revealed Jingliang was forced out of the fight and Chiesa confirmed no replacement opponent was found.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for today’s UFC Vegas 43 event, a eleven-bout fight card headlined by Ketlen Vieira vs Miesha Tate. The main event went the full twenty-five minutes. Tate was able to get off some decent punches in the fight, but it was the jab and volume of Vieira that ultimately proved to be the difference maker. After five rounds of hard fought action, the Brazilian was awarded a much-deserved unanimous decision victory from the judges in attendance.

Top-ranked welterweight title contender Vicente Luque reacted after submitting Michael Chiesa with a D’Arce choke at UFC 265. Luque was coming into this fight against Chiesa off of a D’Arce choke victory over Tyron Woodley in his last fight, and he went back to his signature move here against Chiesa at UFC 265. After Luque was able to thwart off an early rear-naked choke submission attempt by Chiesa, he then locked him up with the D’Arce choke for the victory. It was the fourth win in a row for “The Silent Assassin,” and his 10th win in his last 11 fights inside the Octagon. With the victory over Chiesa, Luque improved to 14-3 in the UFC with 13 finishes.

UFC president Dana White says that Vicente Luque is “now in the title picture” following his submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 265. The No. 6 ranked welterweight in the UFC heading into this matchup, Luque used a D’arce choke to submit Chiesa in the first round of their 170lbs fight on the UFC 265 main card. It was another impressive showing from “The Silent Assassin,” who was coming off of a D’arce choke submission win over Tyron Woodley in his last fight. The Brazilian has now won four straight fights and he has won 10 of his last 11 fights overall. In any way you look at it, Luque is a legitimate contender at 170lbs, and now he’s closing in on a title shot.

Luque and Chiesa are currently ranked fifth and sixth at welterweight and both are dark horses of the division. It’s an intriguing matchup but for the Brazilian, he knows stylistic, it’s a striker vs. grappler matchup. Luque is also expecting the scrap to be an entertaining one for however long it lasts.
