Jiri Prochazka battled a staph infection before his UFC 295 title fight against Alex Pereira but never thought of pulling out. Prochazka was set for his first fight since vacating the light heavyweight title due to a shoulder injury. After being away from the Octagon for nearly a year-and-a-half, Prochazka says he was adamant he would fight even though he couldn’t train and prepare properly due to the infection, which was started on his leg and went all the way to his ear.

Jan Blachowicz is hopeful to face Jiri Prochazka in the main event of a Fight Night card in Europe. Blachowicz is set for shoulder surgery, hopefully in the next week or two, he revealed to BJPENN.com on Friday. The plan is for the Pole to return in the summer, once he does the rehab and gets a training camp in.

It appears that UFC light heavyweights Jiri Prochazka and Aleksandar Rakic will be fighting at some point in 2024. ‘Rocket’ has been out of action since a third-round stoppage loss at the hands of Jan Blachowicz over a year ago. That bout saw Aleksandar Rakic suffer an injury, which has kept him out of action for most of this year. However, he later booked a rematch with Blachowicz, slated for UFC 297 in January.

The co-main event saw Tom Aspinall face Sergei Pavlovich fight for the interim heavyweight title.

Jiri Prochazka has released a video statement following his TKO loss to Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 295. Prochazka and Pereira competed for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on Saturday night (November 11). Jamahal Hill vacated the 205-pound gold due to a ruptured Achilles. Prochazka, who had to vacate the light heavyweight title himself, was looking to become a two-time champion. It wasn’t meant to be this time, as Pereira dropped Prochazka with a counter hook and followed it up with elbows to the head. Referee Marc Godard had seen enough waved the fight off.

Prochazka had to vacate his light heavyweight title last year due to a major injury and since then, he has been healing and rehabbing trying to return. After Jamahal Hill became the new champ in January, the hope was to have the fight in the summer and reports came out that it was targeted for UFC 292 in Boston in August. However, Prochazka says that is still too early as he’s not fully healthy yet.
