Cory Sandhagen doesn’t believe Henry Cejudo deserves a title shot: ‘It’s pretty lame to me’

UFC San Antonio headliner, Cory Sandhagen, is less than pleased with former double-champion, Henry Cejudo, and his immediate title shot post-retirement. Cejudo last fought in May 2020, announcing his retirement after finishing inaugural bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, at UFC 249. The belt lineage then saw Yan fight Sandhagen for the interim belt as Aljamain Sterling and Yan had their two-fight spree in the midst of it.
Marlon Vera claims Henry Cejudo is "broke" which is why he is returning at UFC 288: "What's the point to come back when you retire on top?"

Marlon Vera has a theory as to why Henry Cejudo is returning to the UFC. In the main event of UFC 288, Cejudo is ending his three-year-long hiatus after he announced his retirement in May 2020. Cejudo is set to take on Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight title but many are wondering why ‘Triple C’ is returning after retiring on top.

Henry Cejudo thinks Leon Edwards would be an easy fight for Colby Covington. After Edwards defended his welterweight title for the first time against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in London, Dana White announced Covington would be next. However, Edwards has been vocal in saying he doesn’t want that fight as ‘Chaos’ doesn’t deserve it. But, if the fight does happen, Cejudo thinks it’s a good style matchup for Covington to win.

Henry Cejudo doesn’t appear to be sold on his UFC Bantamweight Championship match against Aljamain Sterling actually taking place on May 6. Cejudo is set to challenge Sterling for the top prize in the UFC’s male bantamweight division in the main event of UFC 288. The action will be held inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Cejudo took to his Twitter account to suggest to the UFC brass that Sterling’s teammate and close friend Merab Dvalishvili serve as a backup opponent in case Sterling pulls out of the fight (h/t MMAFighting).

Henry Cejudo has advised Bo Nickal to take his time before taking on the truly elite middleweights in the UFC. While he may be just 4-0 in mixed martial arts, Bo Nickal is already quite the phenomenon. The former wrestling sensation has made a seamless transition over to MMA and in his UFC debut last weekend, he finished Jamie Pickett in the first round.

Reigning UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo had a backstage run-in during the UFC 285 event. Sterling and Cejudo are being targeted for a 135-pound title clash at UFC 288 on May 6. The event is set to take place inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Both men were in attendance for UFC 285 and had to be separated after exchanging verbal jabs face-to-face. The footage was posted on ESPN MMA’s Twitter account.

Cejudo and Sterling have been linked to a fight since UFC 284 in February and at one point were slated to compete in April at UFC 287. Most recently, ‘Funkmaster’ announced that the fight was officially set for May 6, however Cejudo wonders if Sterling will actually make the walk to the Octagon as he believes the bantamweight champ is afraid of him.

The hope then became to rebook the fight for April. Now, however, Sterling revealed the fight is being targeted to happen in May, but he promises the scrap will happen. When the two do share the Octagon, Sterling is confident he will get his hand raised and will serve as a reminder that Cejudo should’ve stayed retired.

Henry Cejudo has criticized Brandon Moreno for some of the comments he made following his victory at UFC 283. Last weekend at UFC 283, Brandon Moreno did it again. He beat Deiveson Figueiredo to become the new UFC flyweight champion. It came after a dominant performance, although the bout ended in unfortunate circumstances with the Brazilian crowd turning on Moreno after what they thought was an eye poke.

In that outing, the Brazilian made it 1-1-1 in the series, defeating ‘The Assassin Baby’ by unanimous decision. In the process, Figueiredo also reclaimed his 125-pound gold.
