UFC president Dana White gushes over featherweight Giga Chikadze following his highlight-reel finish over Edson Barboza at UFC Vegas 35. Chikadze won his seventh straight fight in the UFC and improved to a perfect 7-0 in the promotion with the brilliant third-round TKO victory over Barboza in the UFC Vegas 35 headliner. Coming into the fight, the biggest question mark about Chikadze was how he would fare if he fought another elite fighter in the UFC, given that he had a somewhat soft schedule on the way to the top-10. However, Chikadze proved beyond a doubt that he is one of the best fighters in the world at 145lbs with his brilliant knockout win over Barboza.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 35 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Edson Barboza vs. Giga Chikadze. The highly anticipated featherweight main event turned out to be a thrilling back and forth affair for as long as it lasted. Giga was able to get off to a strong start in round one, but the Brazilian was quick to turn the tide in the second frame. Then, in round three, Giga Chikadze was able to rock Edson Barboza with a combination and shortly thereafter finished him off with strikes. The referee stepped in to call a stop to the action while Barboza was still on his feet, but the veteran fighter was clearly badly hurt.

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 35 took place on Friday in Las Vegas, and 23 of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete made weight. The main event of UFC Vegas 35 is a good one as two of the top-10 ranked featherweights in the UFC collide when Edson Barboza faces off against Giga Chikadze. Barboza is 2-1 since moving down to featherweight, including a KO win over Shane Burgos in his last fight. As for Chikadze, he is a perfect 6-0 since joining the UFC featherweight division in 2019. Both Barboza and Chikadze successfully made weight for this contest, and the winner of the bout seems destined to take on a top-five ranked opponent next time out.

Barboza steps back into the Octagon on Saturday night when he takes on Chikadze in what should be an entertaining fight between two high-level strikers. For Barboza, he enters this fight with a lot of momentum after having defeated Shane Burgos via third-round TKO at UFC 262 back in May, not to mention picking up a win over Makwan Amirkhani prior to that. With a win over Chikadze, who is a perfect 6-0 since he joined the UFC back in 2019, Barboza is hoping that he fights someone in the UFC featherweight the division’s elite.

UFC featherweight contender Edson Barboza appears to be absolutely shredded ahead of his fight against Giga Chikadze at UFC Vegas 35. Barboza, the longtime UFC lightweight contender, moved down to 145lbs last year for the first time in his UFC career. Although he lost a controversial split decision to Dan Ige in his featherweight debut, “Junior” bounced back with a decision win over Makwan Amirkhani, before knocking out Shane Burgos at UFC 262 in one of the best fights of 2021. With Barboza on a two-fight win streak and entrenched as one of the top-10 featherweights in the UFC, the promotion booked him against the red-hot Chikadze for the main event of this Saturday’s UFC Vegas 35 event, in what should be an entertaining fight between strikers.

After that, he began calling for top-five opponents, but that didn’t happen, however, he did get a main event against Barboza which he is eager about.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Barboza and Chikadze have agreed to headline a Fight Night card on August 28 at a location TBD, the fight has not been officially signed, however. It’s likely the event will take place at the UFC Apex.

UFC featherweight contender Shane Burgos described what getting knocked out by Edson Barboza in bizarre fashion at UFC 262 felt like. The UFC 262 “Fight of the Night” was an absolute war between Burgos and Barboza for as long as it lasted. The first two rounds were competitive, with Barboza having the slight edge heading into the third round, but Burgos was still live in the fight. However, a Barboza overhand right that connected with Burgos early in the third round sent “Hurricane” crumbling to the floor in a bizarre delayed-reaction knockout that was very concerning to watch. UFC president Dana White was worried something bad had happened to Burgos and the UFC sent him to the hospital right away, though Burgos later said that he felt fine.

UFC featherweight veteran Edson Barboza reacted after odd his knockout win over Shane Burgos in what was the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 262. Barboza and Burgos went back-and-forth in an absolute war that saw both men sling heavy leather and nasty kicks at each other for as long as the fight lasted. After two competitive rounds, Barboza landed a right hand on Burgos in the third round. It didn’t appear to be a particularly hard shot, but almost immediately Burgos stumbled backwards as his brain shut off and he was knocked out by Barboza’s follow-up punches in the ground. It was a very odd knockout and very concerning for medical officials as Burgos was sent to the hospital following the fight for a CT scan, though apparently, he is feeling better already.

UFC featherweight contender Shane Burgos provided an update following his scary TKO loss to Edson Barboza at UFC 262. Barboza and Burgos opened up the UFC 262 pay-per-view card with an exciting “Fight of the Night” slugfest between the two highly-skilled strikers. Burgos had a lot of success with his hands early on, but Barboza was also punching back and landing some nasty low kicks along the way. It was one hell of a fight and it appeared destined to head to the judges’ scorecards, but in the third round, Barboza was able to connect with a right hand on Burgos that resulted in “Hurricane” having a delayed reaction, stumbling backwards, and falling down. Barboza immediately pounced and the fight was stopped via third-round TKO.

Team Edson Barboza confirmed the fan-favorite signed a new, multi-year deal with the UFC, keeping him with the world’s leading MMA promotion. Barboza only had one fight left on his current UFC contract following his last outing, a unanimous decision victory over Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen. The 35-year-old Brazilian expressed interest in re-signing on a new contract with the promotion following the conclusion of his current contract, but until now a deal had not been reached. Now that Barboza and the UFC have agreed on a new deal, he plans on making a run for the featherweight title. Barboza’s long-time agent Alex Davis first confirmed the news of him re-signing with the UFC to MMAFighting.com.

For the past 10 years, Barboza has been a staple of the UFC roster, becoming a top contender at lightweight for many years before moving down to featherweight in 2020 and becoming a top-15 fighter in a second weight class this year.
