At last, Cain Velasquez had some good news as he breathed a sigh of relief whilst leaving a holding facility in Santa Clara County. Velasquez underwent eight months in prison pending trial for attempted murder charges.

Cain Velasquez was officially granted bail on Wednesday after previously being denied three times. Velasquez has been in jail since February on attempted murder charges among others. Although he had been denied bail three times, Velasquez’s lawyer continued to press on, and on Tuesday, Judge Arthur Bocanegra granted the former heavyweight champ his request. Velasquez’s bail is set at $1 million. He will also have to wear GPS tracking; he must also comply with a protective order 300 yards away from the victims in the case.

Cain Velasquez has been granted bail. The former UFC heavyweight champion has been in jail since February 28 and has been denied bail three times since. He is facing 10 charges but has pled not guilty to all of them which include attempted murder; shooting at an occupied motor vehicle or aircraft; three counts of assault with a firearm; three counts of assault with a deadly weapon; willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony. If he is found guilty of attempted murder he faces a minimum of 20 years and up to life in prison, with additional time being added for the other charges, if found guilty.

UFC President Dana White sent the judge of the Santa Clara Superior Court a letter supporting former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Velasquez (14-3 MMA) was arrested in California on charges of attempted murder back in February. The 39-year-old was reportedly chasing after and shooting at Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting Cain’s 4-year-old son. During the chaos Velasquez accidently shot another passenger of Harry’s vehicle in the arm. The former heavyweight champion was later arrested and could now face up to twenty years in prison for his actions.

Goularte, 43, currently faces a felony charge of lewd acts with a minor child – with the reported victim later being identified as Velasquez’s four-year-old son. Goularte was arrested earlier this year and released on $50,000 bail, and just one day later, Velasquez fired a gun at Goularte and accidentally struck his stepfather Paul Bender.

The former lightweight kingpin does not believe Velasquez is a danger to society and does believe he should have been granted bail. Cain has been in prison for months now, the courts not granting him bail following his arrest for allegedly shooting Paul Bender in March of this year.
