At UFC 288, the co-main event will see Gilbert Burns battle Belal Muhammad in a huge welterweight title eliminator. The belief, for many, is that the victor will go on to challenge for the championship later this year.

UFC 288 might have a co-main event, but that’s still far from official. The card is slated for next month and will be headlined by Aljamain Sterling’s title defense against the returning Henry Cejudo. While the main event is still slated for May, last week, the event took a big hit. Charles Oliveira was originally slated to face Beneil Dariush in the co-main event, but ‘Do Bronx’ pulled out due to injury.

There, he attended the post-fight press conference where he discussed a possible return. In the presser, Muhammad stated that his next two ideal matchups were Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland.

Belal Muhammad is thinking about moving up to middleweight. Muhammad is currently ranked fourth at welterweight but will not be getting the next title shot, as that will go to Colby Covington. Although he has talked about potentially fighting Kamaru Usman next, if that doesn’t happen, he is pondering a move to 185lbs to face either Khamzat Chimaev or Sean Strickland.

Masvidal is set to fight for the first time in over a year in the co-main event of UFC 287 as he takes on Gilbert Burns. It’s an intriguing matchup and one Burns is a sizeable betting favorite. Yet, Muhammad likes Masvidal’s chances to win due to the fact that he thinks the Brazilian will fight emotionally.
