Vitor Belfort issues statement following TKO win over Evander Holyfield in boxing

UFC legend Vitor Belfort issued a statement following his first-round TKO win over legendary boxer Evander Holyfield in their boxing match. Belfort fought Holyfield in the main event of the Triller Fight Club boxing card this past Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. “The Phenom” didn’t need long to take care of business as he was able to finish Holyfield with strikes in the first round. Taking to his social media following the fight, Belfort issued the following statement.

Former United States President Donald Trump praised “great patriot” Vitor Belfort following his first-round TKO win over Evander Holyfield. Trump was a special guest at Saturday night’s Triller Fight Club boxing event, providing commentary for the fans and also answering a number of questions. Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort says he wants to “mix the rules” of MMA and boxing following his big win over Evander Holyfield. Belfort finished the boxing legend, Holyfield, with punches in the first round of their pro boxing match at the Triller Fight Club event on Saturday night. Following the event, Belfort was asked what is next for him following the big KO win. As far as Belfort goes, he plans on continuing to box now that he’s gotten the big win over Holyfield in his back pocket. But it’s Belfort’s goal to create a hybrid sport that combines both the aspects of MMA and boxing, primarily in the clinch, where Belfort says he hopes to continue his fighting career.

Boxing legend Evander Holyfield returned to the squared circle this evening for a heavyweight bout with MMA superstar Vitor Belfort. Holyfield, who is now 58-years-old, had not competed since 2011 where he scored a TKO victory over Brian Nielsen. Although many people, including members of his family, voiced their respective concerns about ‘The Real Deal’ returning to action, Evander remained confident that he would perform well this evening.

The event was originally slated to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. However, the fight card was moved after original headliner Oscar De La Hoya was forced to withdraw due to illness, and Holyfield was booked as the short-notice replacement. California would not sanction the Holyfield vs Belfort fight to take place in the state which resulted in the event being shifted to Florida.

Belfort returns to the pro boxing ring for the first time in 15 years when he takes on Holyfield this weekend for Triller Fight Club. Belfort was originally set to fight Oscar De La Hoya, but the fight was scrapped when De La Hoya had to withdraw due to COVID-19. Instead, Holyfield stepped up on short notice and will now take on Belfort this Saturday.

The card, which features a co-main event boxing match between MMA legends Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz, was originally set to take place in California, but the event was moved to Florida after the California State Athletic Commission refused to sanction Holyfield to fight. Considering he is 58 years old and stepping up on very short notice to take this fight against a dangerous opponent in Belfort, it’s understandable why California said no. Not to mention that Holyfield hasn’t stepped into the ring in over a decade.

Belfort was expected to fight Oscar De La Hoya next weekend, but the former boxing champ was forced to withdraw from the fight after contracting COVID-19. Rather than scrapping the entire event, the promotion was able to get a short-notice replacement in the form of Evander Holyfield to step in and take the fight against Belfort. However, because Holyfield is 58 years old, the California State Athletic Commission refused to sanction the fight to take place in the state. Instead, Triller will move the entire event to Florida.

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has been deemed out of the Vitor Belfort boxing match, and Evander Holyfield is expected to step in instead. TMZ Sports first reported the news that De La Hoya is out of the Belfort fight, which was scheduled to take place on September 11. Instead, Belfort will fight Holyfield now, although the fight has not been officially sanctioned yet. Either way, De La Hoya is out of the fight and on Friday afternoon he announced to his fans he the reason he is out is due to COVID-19. According to De La Hoya, he is fully vaccinated but still contracted the coronavirus.
