Former UFC fighter Felipe Colares dies at 29 after being hit by a bus

Six-fight UFC veteran Felipe Colares has passed away at age 29. According to the Brazilian outlet, Globo, Colares died on Monday after being run over by a bus on Avenida das Américas, in Guaratiba as he was returning from training. Colares’ trainer Rodrigo Babi, told the outlet that the MMA fighter was attended to by the Fire Department and transported to Rocha Faria Hospital, in Campo Grande. Unfortunately, he was in serious condition and could not resist the injuries, dying on the way to the hospital.

Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland are staring in a new Cuervo Tequila commercial. Holland (24-9 MMA) and Thompson (17-6 MMA) fought each other in December of last year at UFC Orlando. The outcome was a TKO loss for the 30-year-old known as ‘Trailblazer‘.

Brady Hiestand knew he had the cardio advantage over Batgerel Danaa and thought the longer the fight went, the better it was for him. Entering the fight at UFC Vegas 71, Hiestand was the underdog but was confident he had all the tools to win. In the first round, Hiestand thought he had a lot of success and went to his corner thinking he won the opening round. In the second round, Danaa dropped him and dominated the round, so Hiestand thought it was 1-1 but still wasn’t going to leave it to the judges so knew he needed to get a stoppage.

Luke Rockhold isn’t ruling out fighting for the UFC again. Rockhold came back last August at UFC 278 after three years away and suffered a decision loss to Paulo Costa. It was his third defeat in a row and after the loss, he said he was retiring from fighting. Yet, after some time thinking, he asked for and received his UFC release, and will now be fighting at BKFC 41 against Mike Perry.

He has been cut from the UFC before and even though he was the betting underdog, he had a ton of confidence as he thought he could catch Glenn with a big shot, but admits he was surprised it happened so soon.

Jack Hermansson will no longer be headlining the June 3 UFC fight card. According to MMA Mania’s Alex Behunin, Hermansson has suffered an injury and was forced to pull out of his main event scrap against Brendan Allen. At this time, it’s uncertain if the fight will be rebooked or if the UFC will be searching for a new opponent to face Allen on about five weeks’ notice.

For the last few years, Deiveson Figueiredo has been involved in one of the best rivalries in UFC history. Alongside Brandon Moreno, the two men fought for the UFC flyweight championship four times. They split one win each alongside a draw and as a result, they took part in one final collision at UFC 283.

Adesanya and Du Plessis have been going back and forth about the two being African fighters as Du Plessis considers himself “the real” African fighter of the UFC. That did not sit well with Adesanya who said he wants to eventually drag Du Plessis’ carcass across South Africa.
