Enter No. 3 Ferguson, who is looking to get back in the cage and get a win following a TKO loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 in May. With the status of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov up in the air right now, the winner of Oliveira vs. Ferguson could be in line to fight for a vacant title should the champion decide to hang his gloves up.

UFC president Dana White explained why lightweight Tony Ferguson was booked against Charles Oliveira instead of Michael Chandler at UFC 256. We knew that Ferguson was champing at the bit to get in the Octagon before the year was up, and it seemed for a while that Chandler was going to be his opponent. However, the UFC surprised everyone when it was announced this week that Ferguson would instead be fighting top-ranked contender Charles Oliveira instead. The fight will now take place on the UFC 256 main card, with the winner surely figuring himself into title contention at 155lbs.

The opening odds have been released for December’s highly anticipated lightweight scrap between Charles Oliveira and Tony Ferguson. Late yesterday evening, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed on Twitter that a lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Charles Oliveira was being finalized for UFC 256 on December 12.

UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson has revealed that he’s been told Michael Chandler has accepted another fight. The animosity between these two elite fighters has been steadily growing as the weeks and months have gone on with Ferguson campaigning to fight Chandler before the end of the year. The former Bellator star, however, wants to wait it out and serve as the co-main event on the proposed Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier card in January.

Michael Chandler is looking to fight Tony Ferguson in 2021. Chandler and Ferguson were first linked to a fight back at UFC 254. However, the former Bellator champ accused “El Cucuy” of turning him down. Ferguson then called for the fight to take place at UFC 256 which Chandler says will not happen. Instead, he believes it should happen as the co-main event to Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

According to a recent report, it’s looking unlikely that Tony Ferguson will be joining the UFC 256 card next month. Ferguson, who hasn’t fought since his devastating loss to Justin Gaethje earlier this year, wants to put himself back in position for a shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship. In order to do that, however, he needs to remain active – and the fact that he’s been calling for a fight against Michael Chandler before the end of 2020 seems to indicate he’s ready to go.

UFC lightweight star Tony Ferguson accused rival Conor McGregor of not having the balls to fight a top contender in the 155lbs division. McGregor is set to take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, but there are some issues right now in making that fight official. According to UFC president Dana White, Poirier has signed the deal on the dotted line. But the UFC is still waiting on McGregor to sign his bout agreement, although White said that he’s confident he will do so. Still, the fact that this fight hasn’t been signed on the dotted line is making some people wonder what’s up.

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has issued a challenge to former Bellator title holder Michael Chandler. Chandler (21-5 MMA) signed with the UFC shortly after scoring a first round knockout victory over Benson Henderson at Bellator 243 this past August. He was immediately booked to serve as the back-up for UFC 254’s Justin Gaethje vs. Khabib Nuramagomedov main event, but thankfully his services were not required that evening in Abu Dhabi.

Recent UFC free-agent signing Michael Chandler is requesting a matchup against either Tony Ferguson or Justin Gaethje for his Octagon debut. Chandler was the backup for the UFC 254 main event between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Gaethje, but he wasn’t needed as both men made weight and made it to the fight unscathed. A former three-time lightweight champion in Bellator, Chandler ended up getting introduced on the UFC 254 pay-per-view broadcast to UFC fans for the first time. But he went to Fight Island with the hopes of stepping into the cage.

McGregor is slated to make his return to the Octagon on January 23rd for a rematch with Dustin Poirier at 155lbs. While that bout has yet to be made official, Dana White did tell reporters at yesterday’s UFC Vegas 12 event it was a “done deal“.

Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov is the fight that got away for UFC fans. The promotion tried to book this fight five times in the past but the bout was ‘cursed’ and never came to be. It’s unfortunate because for many years both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were two of the top lightweights in the sport and this was the fight that everyone wanted to see. But in 2020, it seems like we may have missed the boat on this potential dream matchup as Nurmagomedov recently announced that he is stepping away from the sport of MMA.
