Rob Font plans to frustrate Cody Garbrandt and force him to make a mistake en route to a KO win

Rob Font is ecstatic to be headlining his first UFC show. In the main event of UFC Vegas 27 on Saturday night, Font is set to take on former UFC bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt. After Font knocked out Marlon Moraes in the first round in December, he called out TJ Dillashaw and Jose Aldo, as he thought Garbrandt would be going down to flyweight. But, when he was offered this fight, it was an immediate yes for the New England Cartel member.

Cody Garbrandt staying at bantamweight, faces Rob Font in May main event

Former UFC champion Cody Garbrandt is set to return after his long battle with COVID-19. For his next time out, he’ll be back in the main event. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto broke the news Thursday that Garbrandt will remain at bantamweight. This is after he was previously looking to make the move to 125-pounds in pursuit of Deiveson Figueiredo’s flyweight crown. Now, he draws Rob Font on May 22 as the UFC fight night event’s headliner. The location has yet to be determined.

Rob Font is now a top-five bantamweight and he plans on staying ready for the upcoming title fight. At UFC Vegas 17, Font picked up the biggest win of his career as he knocked out Marlon Moraes in the first round. For his head coach, Tyson Chartier, he says the win over Moraes is a big one for Font’s confidence and silencing the doubters.

Moraes (23-7-1 MMA) had entered the bout looking to rebound this after suffering a devastating second round TKO loss to Cory Sandhagen in his most previous effort. Prior to that loss, ‘Magic’ had earned a split-decision win over Jose Aldo at UFC 245.

Rob Font didn’t expect to be fighting Marlon Moraes in his return fight. Font is on a two-fight winning streak but has not fought since last December when he defeated Ricky Simon by decision. Rob has been sidelined with injuries but at UFC Vegas 17 he will return to the Octagon against Moraes.

Rob Font and Nathaniel Wood agree to fight at UFC London

UFC bantamweights Rob Font and Nathaniel Wood are making the UFC matchmakers’ job pretty easy. The pair exchanged a verbal agreement on Twitter over the weekend that they’d be willing to fight each other when the UFC makes it’s return to London on Mar. 16.

In the opening bout of the UFC 220 main card, bantamweights Thomas Almeida and Rob Font stepped into the cage together in an early frontrunner for Fight of the Night honors. Though Almeida entered this fight as a notable favorite, it was ultimately Font who came out on top. After a fun first round, the Massachusetts native floored his foe with a blistering right hand. From there, it was only a matter of time before he sealed the deal, forcing the ref’s hand and earning an impressive second-round TKO.
