A Brazilian MMA fighter was knocked out twice in what has to be one of the all-time worst stoppages in the history of mixed martial arts. An amateur MMA bout between 198-pound catchweight fighters Jessian Lucas and Michael Douglas (not the actor) was featured this past Sunday in Brazil under the Copa Thunder de MMA Amador banner. The bout was sanctioned by CANMMA, which also works with the UFC when it does events in Brazil. However, referee Kleber Lopes embarrassed the sport when he made one of the most bizarre and terrible stoppages you will ever see.
Weili Zhang likely to defend title against Rose Namajunas in first quarter of 2021, says coach

Pedro Jordao, one of the coaches behind UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang, says his pupil is likely to defend her title against Rose Namajunas in early 2021. “We’ll see how things go with this virus,” Jordao told MMA Fighting, laying out the timeframe for a long rumored fight between Zhang and Namajunas. “But I think (the fight) will probably be in the first quarter. … We’re training for a while here. It appears that her next fight will be against Rose, but nothing is set yet. Everything indicates that’s the plan — and it makes sense, everybody knows that.”

Veteran flyweight contender Jussier Formiga, the lone man to defeat UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figuerido, has been released by the UFC. Though Figueiredo is currently riding a three-fight losing skid, the decision to release him from the organization comes as a big surprise considering he was a top-10 ranked fighter. Just last year, he defeated Figueiredo, the current champion. Nevertheless, the promotion has made it official as Formiga has been officially pulled from the rankings. The news that Figueiredo had been released was first reported by MMAFighting.com.

Mike Perry will have two people in his corner for his UFC 255 fight against Tim Means. When Perry fought Mickey Gall earlier this year, the only person in his corner was his girlfriend, Latory Gonzalez. Then, in the lead up to his return at UFC 255, “Platinum” said he planned on auctioning off his corner spots and Darren Till showed interest. The middleweight contender even said he would pay five thousand dollars to be in his corner.

UFC lightweight contender Paul Felder did an interview while getting stitched up following his war with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 14. Felder stepped up on five days’ notice to take on dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 14 on Saturday night. Despite taking the fight on super short notice, Felder put up a heck of a fight, ultimately losing a split decision on the judges’ scorecards. It was an incredible performance by a fighter who wasn’t even expected to compete on the card.

Daniel Cormier believes former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is ineligible for consideration in the GOAT debate in MMA. Cormier, who previously ruled over the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, has fought Jones twice. In their first fight, Cormier lost by decision. In the second, he was knocked out, but the result was overturned when Jones tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid.

MMA veteran Tara LaRosa, who has previously competed in Invicta FC and on The Ultimate Fighter, marched with Proud Boys in Washington, DC over the weekend. The Proud Boys, a loosely organized far right extremist group, took to the streets of DC over the weekend in support of President Donald Trump and his specious claims of widespread voter fraud. Things quickly turned violent, as the group began to clash with counter-protesters, with the Washington Post reporting that multiple arrests were made and one person was stabbed.
