Both men began expressing interest in a fight, but for Gaethje, he doesn’t think it is right for the Irishman to get a title fight.

Francis Ngannou is coming off a defense of his UFC heavyweight championship this past weekend at UFC 270. While the champion defeated his former training partner Ciryl Gane to retain his heavyweight gold, the real battle was going on outside the cage. Ngannou has recently been having very public battles with Dana White and the UFC brass since his knockout win over Stipe Miocic in March 2021, which saw him claim the promotions heavyweight title. Ngannou has argued that he’s been paid far below what he is worth, and has openly sought a fight with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in the boxing ring.

The UFC heavyweight champion defended his title after scoring a unanimous decision victory over his former training partner with a grappling-heavy gameplan. Ngannou revealed post-fight that he had suffered injuries during his training camp, and had a grade 3 MCL tear and a damaged ACL. Going into further detail on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the Cameroonian then revealed that he was actually advised by a doctor that he had seen pre-fight that he should pull out from his title unification bout at the event.

In the final PPV of the year for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the promotion went all out. They put on a blockbuster card stacked from head to toe with talent, and that was particularly true for the main event and co-main event of the evening.

Last Saturday night at UFC 270, Deiveson Figueiredo defeated Brandon Moreno via unanimous decision to reclaim the UFC flyweight title. It marked the third time that the pair had faced off and the first time in which the Brazilian had been able to get his hand raised as the victor.

Next month in Houston, the UFC will put on their second pay-per-view of the year with the headline attraction being Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker 2 for the UFC middleweight title. However, despite that being an incredible main event, it’s worth noting that there are plenty of other intriguing contests set to go down at the Toyota Center.
