Back at UFC 273 in April, Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns went to war in what could easily be described as a Fight of the Year contender. Both men threw everything they had at one another in an attempt to get one step closer to a welterweight title shot, and in the end, it was Chimaev who had his hand raised in victory after three gruelling rounds.

At UFC 280 later this year, Charles Oliveira will contend for the UFC lightweight championship as he attempts to regain what he lost on the scales prior to UFC 274 in Arizona. His opponent on that night in Abu Dhabi will be Islam Makhachev, a man who has been waiting for a long time to get his hands on the gold.

Tom Aspinall had successful surgery for his knee on Wednesday. Aspinall took to social media on Wednesday morning to announce he was set for surgery and revealed the full injury he sustained. Of course, the Brit suffered a knee injury just 15 seconds into his UFC London main event fight against Curtis Blaydes and Aspinall says it ended up being a torn MCL, a torn meniscus and ACL damage.

The bout is set to be the semifinals of the lightweight tournament. The winner will advance to face the winner of Olivier Aubin-Mercier, and Alex Martinez for one million dollars.

Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler will finally be fighting. Ever since Chandler signed with the UFC, the two have been linked to fighting one another. Now, according to Ariel Helwani, the promotion is targeting Poirier vs. Chandler to take place at UFC 281 on November 12 in Madison Square Garden in New York. The deal has not been signed but is trending in the right direction, Poirier’s team wants the contest to be five-rounds according to reports.

It was Derrick Lewis (26-10 MMA) vs Sergei Pavlovich (16-1 MMA) in a heavyweight bout last Saturday night, July 30th. It was just 55 seconds into the 1st round where Pavlovich finished Lewis to win the match. Pavlovich handed his opponent a barrage of shots and Lewis eventually fell to the canvas wherein referee Dan Miragliotta quickly jumped in to stop the fight.
