Jorge Masvidal is currently focused on a UFC 244 fight Nate Diaz, but that doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about his future options in the UFC welterweight division. If everything goes according to plan against Diaz, Masvidal says he wants to mix it up with one of “two sissies” next. By that, he means UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman and top contender Colby Covington. More specifically, he seems to want to fight whichever of the two is holding the UFC welterweight title at the time — assuming they fight in the meantime.

Colby Covington has been at odds with American Top Team teammate Dustin Poirier ever since Poirier lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. After 242, Poirier was asked if he would be willing to fight a training partner at American Top Team, and he said no because he isn’t a sellout like Colby Covington.

On Saturday, the UFC will return to our screens with the under-the-radar UFC Mexico card. The card will be topped by a dynamite featherweight matchup between proven finishers Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens. In this fight, Rodriguez will look to build on the momentum of a 2018 Knockout of the Year contender: a last second, elbow-induced knockout of “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. Stephens, on the other hand, will be looking to rebound from a pair of losses to Jose Aldo and Zabit Magomedsharipov.

During a fan Q&A on Twitter on Thursday afternoon, the UFC boss was asked why fighters are paid so little. He responded a with a bit of name-calling, and with an assurance that fighter pay will probably always be an issue.

We’re all waiting to get a look at the BMF belt that will be on the line when Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz collide in the UFC 244 main event, and from the sounds of it, we’re going to have to wait a little longer. Speaking during a fan Q&A on Twitter, UFC President Dana White was asked when fans will get a sneak peak of this new UFC belt. He claimed the belt will be revealed the week of UFC 244 — so sometime in the days ahead of November 2.

Thiago Santos sustained some serious injuries in his July split decision loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Despite his valiant effort, the Brazilian challenger exited the cage with a torn ACL, MCL, PCL and meniscus in his left knee and a partially torn meniscus in his right. Unsurprisingly, these injuries required Santos to go under the knife. Shortly after his fight, he underwent a complicated surgery to repair his badly damaged knees.

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that former promotional ‘champ champ’ Daniel Cormier will be making at least one more walk to the Octagon. Earlier tonight, the UFC boss spoke to Barstool Sports where he announced that the UFC is planning on booking a rubber match between Daniel Cormier and current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

Greg Hardy’s next opponent and location has changed. Originally, the former NFL pro-bowler was set to take on Jarjis Danho at UFC Singapore. But, Danho had pulled out of the fight, so the UFC decided to move Hardy to UFC Boston, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

The Irishman has been tweeting and hinting at returning but no fight has been booked by the promotion. McGregor has remained adamant he wants to have his rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. But, in an interview with ESPN, he revealed he was scheduled to fight Justin Gaethje in July before a hand injury derailed that.

Shortly after he knocked out Ben Askren at UFC 239, streaking welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal began campaigning for a fight with former UFC featherweight and welterweight champ Conor McGregor. In the end, however, talk of this matchup fizzled when UFC President Dana White claimed that Masvidal is “too big” for a matchup with McGregor, and that he wouldn’t book the matchup on those grounds.

Yet according to top UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington, who has shown there are no limits to his trash talk, PETA should be more concerned with Nurmagomedov’s treatment of sheep. Ray Longo isn’t calling for Donald Cerrone to retire, but he hopes “Cowboy” takes more time off between fights. Cerrone suffered his second straight TKO loss at UFC Vancouver. “Cowboy” was stopped by Justin Gaethje in the first round. Cerrone’s defeat at the hands of Gaethje came just over three months removed from his stoppage loss to Tony Ferguson. We’re in September and “Cowboy” has already had four fights this year.

UFC middleweight David Branch has reportedly been given his walking papers after testing positive for banned substances and receiving a two-year suspension by United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for the infraction. Veteran MMA journalist Mike Russell reported the news on Twitter that Branch has been released by the UFC after USADA announced his suspension yesterday. Russell also revealed that Branch has left Dominance MMA.
